Whale watching cruises.

SWMBO has a significant birthday early next year, and she has always wanted to go on a whale watching cruise around the Norwegian fjords.

I've been looking around but seem to be drawing a blank for these type of cruises for early in the year.

Has anyone any experience or knowledge that will help me?

Cheers. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

We went to Iceland some years ago, late in their season around September and caught a brief sight of whales. That might be an alternative to Scandinavia?

Iv'e never spotted whales in either Iceland or Bejam or anywhere else but I think there are no whale watching cruises in Norway early in the year because the whales don't visit there until later in the year.

In the meantime Iceland do a good frozen tuna steak.

The Norwegian whale watching cruises are later in the year, the days are very short in Norway early in the year, may I suggest you give her the tickets for a whale watch (separate day) and a cruise down/up the inner waterway from either Haugesund or Bergen in the south to the north, as near as midsummer day as possible, that is something not to be missed. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

McSimmo, I cruise quite a bit and by far the best is Alaska, bit more pricey but guaranteed whales of many various types plus Orcas and various wildlife. Thumbs Up

Special Birthday mind and good books forever Wink If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Madeira at the right time is a good place to see whales . Blues , Sperm , Pilots should all be there at some time . I’ve seen the last two when we have been out big game fishing from Funchal . You also if you are lucky might just get to see a blue marlin “ free jumping “ just for the hell of it . The other place which is exceptional for sea life watching is the Pacific North west from Seattle up to Vancouver Island , I was lucky enough to weekend up there when I was working, and had to go out for meetings . Victoria on Vancouver Island is a bit like Harrogate by the sea , with lots of friendly Pro -Brit Canadians , Orcas are the thing there , stunning thing seeing a pod of these swimming past a stationery small boat 50 miles offshore . I’d bet a week up there would be achievable inside a of a Nordic cruise price. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Hi Jules,
IF I recall we went in the back end of May,
Stayed on Faial as being a keen yachtsman I thought I would combine seeing the Marina, Peters Cafe (a must for yachties) and of course the whales,
It can be a gamble as a friend went two years after in early spring and didn't see any whales, as there was a low pressure weather system over the area and it appears they (whales) stay down far longer.
I must say we thoroughly enjoy our visit to Faial all the hedges in the interior are blue Hydrangeas mile and miles of them. Thumbs Up
