2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Narvik Black
Oil change

My vehicle is now 10 years old, and I have done 67000 from new. It's had regular services (engine oil change,fuel/oil filter) but I've never had the gearbox oil renewed. Most of the mileage accounted for is through short journeys, with a couple of long ones (500 mile) each year.
Would it be wise to get the oil changed?

Short journeys do more harm when compared to cars that always fully warm up.

Have you had a fully specified LR 10 year service done ? That specifies transmission oil changes and a new cam belt. I would have the water pump changed when doing a cam belt kit change so you want all new coolant after flushing out the old coolant as well and a new ancillary belt.

As for the Haldex filters one more 10 year job if not done to do to keep her going long time. Flush the power steering and brakes and nowt left in respect of preventative work for a while.

10 years service is a bit of a cash killer and I would recommend doing these jobs from 4 to 5 years onward to balance out cost.

Ignore a cam belt change by 10 years and it could really come back to really bite you on yer bum Shocked

I suspect quite a few owners who have supported LR dealer servicing from new will part with cars at 10 years once they receive a fully loaded LR quote for this service. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Why Jack ? Its part of the L.R. Spec 10 year service along with the cam belt change. Hence the price being a killer. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Just cost wise get them all done @ the 10 yr service & its big bucks, if cost is not a issue by all means get it all done same time.

Only today, did I have a new timing belt /water pump kit fitted. I've never had a full service via Landrover, done. All my services were oil/filter change etc.
I'll get it looked at soon.

Thanks

Mine will never see a landrover dealer 10 year service, I'll have the oils all changed at the 5 year mark and a cam belt well before the 10 years, for loads cheaper as well! Thumbs Up Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Hi and apologies for hijacking the thread, and if this a daft question, but quite a new FL2 owner here.

Can anyone confirm what oil does a 2007 2.2 Diesel Auto take ?

Checked the level the other day and think it needs about a 1ltr top up.

Thanks folks

Tom

Which oil are you referring to?

To get started try the Opie oils website and search using your vehicle reg Jules

My Fl2s have rarely needed a top up between oil changes. I cant actually remember when I last needed to do it.

Top your car up and see if the level drops - you may have a leak or burning oil. Jules

The engine oil spec should be in the owners manual. Jules
