start/stop function

Can any one help me with this one.
I only do short trips so the start stop function hasn't worked for ages, assuming due to a weak battery.
Had a new battery fitted today. I thought the start/stop function would now work with a new battery but it doesn't. also the start / stop override switch doesn't light up either.
The battery is one recommended for the car but its not a LR one.
Any possible explanations would be appreciated.

Wait to see what is does once this clod weather goes as it should not work anyway when really cold. Mind you I would have thought the override switch would be lit but I wish mine had failed as its a pain in the ass and gives premature wear to the starting system. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I think as Bob stated about temp, it’s got to be at least +4 for stop/start to work

Stop start

Thanks guys, I’ll wait for the weather to warm up a bit.
I agree the system is a bit of a nuisance,

Numerous reasons why stop/start won't work but the main ones are:

External air temperature must be between about 0 and 40 degrees.
Battery must be fully charged
Radio shouldn't be putting too much load on the battery
Climate control mustn't be putting too much load on the battery.

Given current weather conditions i'd be surprised if it did work.

Copied from the drivers handbook:
CONDITIONS PREVENTING
AUTOMATIC ENGINE STOP
The engine will not automatically stop if:-
• the external temperature is below
approximately 0°C (32°F)
• the external temperature is above
approximately 35°C (95°F)
• engine has not reached operating
temperature
• driver’s seat belt is not fastened
• driver’s door is not fully closed
• the driver’s foot is on either the clutch or
accelerator pedals
• climate control system demand is high
• battery charge is low
• the DPF is regenerating
• HDC or a Terrain Response special
program are selected
When the engine has been stopped by the
stop/start system, the Eco icon will illuminate.
See STOP/START (MANUAL TRANSMISSION
ONLY) (page 59).
Note: The stop/start system is disabled when a
trailer electrical connection is made.
CONDITIONS CAUSING AUTOMATIC
ENGINE RESTART
The engine will automatically start if:-
• climate control system demand increases
• the vehicle’s speed reaches approximately
3 km/h (2 mph)
• HDC or a Terrain Response special
program are selected
• battery charge becomes low
• brake vacuum has been reduced (eg using
the brake pedal repeatedly with the engine
off)
If the LED indicator fails to illuminate at start
up, a system fault may be present. Contact
your Land Rover dealer for assistance.
As you can see the system needs to meet a lot of conditions in order to work and can be temperamental at times. However the switch should illuminate in order to show that the system is working so you have a fault somewhere! Big Cry

+1 first thing I do is switch it off, the fuel saving v wear & tear on the battery, starter, fly wheel etc just not worth it.

An AA guy told me that he had seen a lot more cars with failed starter motors or screwed up ring gear on the flywheel in the last few years. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

How do you disable the stop start on the FL2, I don't think mine as ever worked since I had it, can it be permanently switched off by an Hawkeye?

TD4e start/stop rolled out of the factory early 2009, with uprated starter motor and ring gear compared to other cars that kept with standard components.
Regarding disabling it I did read on here somewhere that one owner permanently disabled it by 'frigging' the resistance of the ambient temperature sensor. What else that affected I don't know.

Thank you for your answers guys, my late 57 Tambora will not have it then, just the normal start & Stop button.
