Winter Wiper Park or Wipers Up?

From far too much time working in cold weather ( -10c to -45c) I was taught to lift the wipers off the screen once parked to stop the blades freezing to the screen as the cabin/glass cools.

But now I have this fancy Winter Wiper Park (WWP) function, i'm all of a kerfuffle!

WWP seems to raise the wipers stopped position a bit higher. I dont buy it that this is to get the blades on to the heated screen, as you get WWP on Range Rovers which have Heated Wiper Park. I'm thinking WWP is more to stop the wipers sitting in a bed of ice and snow and to help with clearing in the morning.

Frankly I've ended up with WWP on and the arms lifted off the screen on both cars, but what to people who actually live in cold countries do?

PS currently investigating heater wiper jets and block heaters. Can't be bothered with a fuel fired heater, yet.

Never had an issue with mine even in minus weather the heated screen heats the blades and they thaw. I’ve never had my wipers still frozen on the screen! MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

As I leave my wipers in auto mode, I am frightened they will start up before the screen is heated up, and therefore damaged.

I raise the wipers off the screen when parked up overnight in damp icy weather. - just an old habit. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Yes Wipers UP ....... I did a lot of work in Salo Finland, for Nokia, and the 'Locals' all do wipers UP.

On the FL1 .... LR did sell a set of 'heavy duty' .... Winter Wipers. Alas not for the FL2.

If they sprung back or tampered with by passers by Evil or Very Mad would it not crack a cold screen? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Easy fix to stop wipers sticking to the screen, foam pipe lagging Thumbs Up cut to length even if you forgot them or they were covered in snow it would not damage the screen.

As a side issue, I have used the small pipe lagging to block off the FL2's upper front air intake during winter. The lagging fits into the slots of the front grill just right.

Partially blanking off the radiator in winter used to be common, never hear of anyone doing it now. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
