Try keeping the revs below 1500 for cruising and with a 2,000 max rev limit under acceleration. Run like that for a tankful and see if that improves your mileage. The FL2 has bags of power, but if you use it all the time, the mpg will suffer.

Excellent tip. Thumbs Up If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

I fitted a Bluespark chip, and blanked the EGR port.
The round town driving is around 35MPG. what truly outstanding is towing my 1450KG caravan.
Round trip of 80mile over the weekend and its doing 28MPG.
Thanks to the bluespark I have loads of torque - use the gear box to keep the revs around 1500 and she loves it!!!!

Not quite the whole story as it needs a good burn up every so often to stop carbonising up. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Blue spark is a plug in chip
Disconnect the plug to the fuel injectors and connect this unit in place.
Selling on ebay
Search blue spark freelander

If you want to track your MPG accurately then use the fuelly app (see below). Saves a lot of messing about with calculators! I get mid to high 20's, all my driving is around very hilly towns, if my wife drives on a very long run (300+ motorway miles) we may see 38-40 but that is rare.
It is a 2 ton brick with 4wd, not the car to be buying for economy! Very Happy

May have mis-heard but I think a blanked EGR is going to be an MoT fail soon, along with tampered-with DPF. You may need to unblank for the test. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

How would the MOT tester know if theres a blanking plate in, I always thought they couldn't strip stuff down?

Blanking plate - they can see it in the pipe joint at the throttle body.

On the same subject, how about swirl flap removal? Will that be a failure?

Agreed - but later cars (2012> I think) throw errors unless you 'delete' the EGR in a remap. I just fitted a blanking plate with a small hole which is designed to stop any errors but still get most of the benefits.

How is a tester going to tell the difference between a blanking plate and a gasket anyway? Whistle Cheers,
