falcon Heavy - Space X Launch

just watched it... launch his tesla roadster for a trip round Mars (as a test payload) , for the boosters to return and land upright on a launch pad and the core to land on a drone ship out at sea (though the last bit still needs to be confirmed)

great leap in technology for launching things to space

most powerful rocket since the saturn 5 project too, i believe Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

seriously though that to me is as big a leap as the first space flights. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

The problem with the latest digital LCD 4K and the variations displays is everything looks like a game, at least with the old screens you could tell if it was real, real was always just that bit fuzzier than graphic display generated displays, the old if it's too perfect its a fake no longer apply Confused my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

If they really managed to get the two boosters down close together that is some acheivement. I would not be surprised if the Military use the software.

I was unsure myself about how real it seemed to land the two boosters so much in sync, although sites are showing the same footage and reporting it as the actual landing.

Personally, I have been waiting for the world to catch up with 'Dan Dare' of the Eagle comic since the 1950s.
He always returned to Earth tail-first after his trips to Mars and Venus, it looked easy and obvious to me then, although the stories were set in the (then) distant future of 1999.

I now await gas-turbine driven cars that hover. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Not quite all went according to plan...

Quote:
The third booster was due to settle on a drone ship stationed several hundred kilometres out at sea. Unfortunately, it had insufficient propellant left to slow the descent, missed the target vessel and was destroyed as it hit the water at some 500km/h.

64 tonne payload, thats a lot of caravans.

Or the caravans could be used as a soft landing area At work
