Facelift HB3 Projector Headlamps to LED or HID

Anyone got experience of converting facelift HB3 projector headlamps to LED or HID - which is best? Can HID lenses and ballasts just be swapped with the halogen units and if so is there any economical way of doing it? Any advice would be appreciated.
