Odometer tampering

Hi all, just a quickie..

Has anyone bought an older F2 which seems to have a 'dodgy' mileage?

I've just been going through all the diagnostics on mine in an effort to solve another electrical problem and I came across this.

Instrument panel: C2002 odometer tampered.

Is it possible to 'cheat' the mileage on an F2? Only dead fish go with the flow

I had the same fault on my car, among others (http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic27753.html)

C2002 - Odometer tampered will appear from time to time, because of the wake-up time difference between various modules (that hold odometer info) at power-up.

Thanks for the link. So it is possible that this error is simply another Freelander anomoly which may have nothing to do with the vehicle being 'Clocked'. Smile Only dead fish go with the flow

I read somewhere that the mileage is stored separately in a number of different modules in the car and that the highest figure is the one displayed so it could be that something has been replaced but not coded in properly? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

According to Alex, yes.

I haven't had that error code return since, so I think it must just be a timing issue in the way the reader gets the codes.

Old thread, but I’ve had the odometer tampered message a couple of times now:

C2002-62 (28 ) Odometer tampered - Algorithm based failure - signal compare failure
( on 27-12-2017 14:35:09 at 135215 km )

The wording “signal compare failure” does seem to suggest that it is a glitch between ECUs. Anyone got any new info on this? Is it a shrug and ignore code? 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Yes I had this dtc mixed in amongst others.

I think that the way the diagnostic system works causes errors to show that seemingly have nothing to do with each other.

It is a question of fixing the source error so to speak then clearing the others off the reader.
