Code reader iCarsoft i920 / Foxwell NT510 / iCarsoft LR-1

Hi,

I was thinking it's about time I had something to give me some sort of view of what's going on in the Freelander's ECUs etc. Looking around the choice seems to be between a generic ELM327 adapter plus software, or moving up in price the three I've named seem to be the entry level devices supporting Landrover specific data.

Have I missed anything in the say under £200 price range? As well as the FL2 (2008 model), it needs to support a 2011 Defender TDCi.

What I want to be able to do with it is (1) read diagnostics so that if something's behaving oddly I can see if any of the systems are reporting specific faults. And (2) ideally I'd like to be able to replace parts which then need "coding" to the vehicle. I don't know if (2) is possible with any DIY class equipment, but it's a big problem with modern cars. For example a guy at work had his Renault immobilised at the MOT station for over a week with a handbrake problem of all things - even once replacement parts were fitted the handbrake ECU needed to be programmed for the car.

Any pointers appreciated.

Thanks, Tony S ----------

What you want is to be able to change configuration file of the car.
Its alled SDD tool ranging from 500 to 1000£

There is as always some Chinese copies for much less but they required
a laptop with windows XP.

I have the Foxwell 510 good enough for my purposes at the present time, Does lots of resets of components and hundreds of PIDs. It can't write to the Config File.

That's what I'm not clear on, whether replacing components like for like needs the CCF to be edited. The way it was described sounded more like it was the replacement part that needed to coding to match it to the car, is it actually the other way round, coding the car to accept the transplanted bit? ----------
