Just wondered if anyone had any experience of car parts made by GATES or DAYCO? I’ve seen them about but never used them.
My Daughters 2012 Ford KA (Fiat engine) is due for a Cam Belt change and I can get a kit consisting of Belt, Tensioner and Water Pump for between £70 – 80 on line made by the companies quoted above. Ford parts would be £130+.
Pity I’m having to do this, as although the car is due a belt change by age (5 Years) it’s only covered 18K miles from new.

Both Gates and Dayco are well known in the motor trade as supplying high quality kits as good as genuine parts. They will however contain tensioners and water pumps most likely made in China although many genuine parts also contain more PRC parts than you would think! I have used both brands for many many years with no issues and did my Freelander timing belt/water pump a few months ago using a Gates kit.

There's a Gates kit on eBay for the KA Mk2 which quotes a 60K mile warranty.
Daughter's only done 14K miles since she bought it nearly four years ago. Gone:

Ditto .. Just had Gates cam/aux belts and water pump on mine. REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy

I would be very surprised if gates didn't manufacture a number of OEM parts. Used them for belts for hydraulic pumps and linear actuators for a number of years with no issues. MY11 SD4 HSE.
