My brother in law has an 09 reg FL2 and a couple of weeks ago he was driving it and it just stopped. No warning lights or anything. The AA came and couldn't diagnose the fault so it was taken to a local garage. The fault was traced to the sender in the tank, apparently the gauge was still reading that there was some fuel in it even though it was nearly empty, they just put some more fuel in and it started immediately. Apparently the car stops when the pressure drops to stop air getting into the fuel lines. This is the first fault in 140k miles! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

a friend had a similar experience a few years ago when the "new"d4 came out,he got his and came round so we could have a look and compare our d3.
we went out for a run 20miles or so got back home very impressed,half an hour later they were leaving,got in car would not start the fuel guage showed 1/4 of a tank so no worry there .landrover recovery disco turned up,plugged car in and checked a few things then said you are out of fuel!
it seems on the earlier d4,s there was a problem with the fuel guage in the tank being fixed with a special adhesive(german adhesive)which was coming unstuck,ended up on a transporter being taken back to Maidstone dealership and fixed,not a happy chap. gone
P38 v8 auto no problems,great howle from exhausts when giving it welly
Td5 auto head gasket,no5 pot not uncommon but good car.
