A very sad day - NOW LOOKING UP!

As of the end of this month, I will be without my trusty Freelander! Sad

It's given me 2 1/2 years and 88,500 miles of very almost completely trouble free miles and has been one of my all time favourite cars - right up there with my old XM 2.5TD estates Thumbs Up

But, time moves on and so does my job. I shall be starting a new job at the beginning of January and the Freelander will go back to my old employer.

Wanting to keep a FL2 in the family, I very nearly traded my own private car (a Focus RS) for a 2011 FL2 HSE, but some rotter just beat me to it!

Please let me know if there's a really, really nice manual FL2 for sale near you for the £22,000 ish mark, otherwise it's back to FWD for me. Truly the end of an era! Sad

John.

I did try an auto, but autos and I just don't get on! Such a shame, because if it hadn't been for the auto, there was a near perfect one at Roger Young's in Saltash!

Nearly perfect - bit too pricey....

They did say it was "competitively priced", but competitive with what, I'm not sure Rolling Eyes

Whay would you say was a fair price for that one?

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

I like the first one but the seats would not work with my kids in that colour.

Re auto... i'll go back one day but for now I'm happy with manual.

I went to have a look at some LR2's at Taunton today. Very nice people to deal with Very Happy

They let me out in their nice red demo XS for an unaccompanied test drive (that's how it should be done!). It's interesting getting from an 89,000 mile FL2, to one with only 3,000 miles. Very nice too! While I liked it a lot, I was genuinely shocked to see how busy the bean counters have been since mine was built in 2011, for instance:

Under mirror puddle lamps - GONE
Front footwell lamps - GONE
Twin headlamps - GONE
Front map reading lamps - GONE
Nice chunky rotary TR knob - GONE
Electric seat adjustment - GONE
Auto dimming rear view mirror - GONE
Front parking sensors - GONE
Always at hand, Fisher Price phone keypad - GONE

On the plus side, we all liked the clock!

It would appear that a 2012 car, with full leather, would be a better bet Exclamation

Currently comparing a great deal on a new FL2 at Taunton, with a nice 2012 car at Marshalls. Does anyone here have any experience (good or bad) of dealing with Marshalls? Can't fault the nice people at Taunton Thumbs Up

John.

Depends which Marshalls. I have had good experiences (and good prices) with Marshalls in Bedford and Peterborough. Bought a three-year old trade-in from Bedford and just acquired an ex-demo from Peterborough. Happy with both deals.

None of the above, but it helps to know that the chain of dealers has a good trach record with you.

Still really like this one, but I'm never going to get on with an auto Sad But, if someone wants one to this spec, it's incredibly tidy!

I know how you feel-I also am FL2-less! When I got my first one I wasn't too impressed with Marshall's stock. To be fair most of the dealers were selling pretty poor cars because they were in demand. Two dealers I would recommend for describing their cars honestly and selling high quality FL2's are Hunters, Derby and Armstrong Massey York. I bought a HSE from the latter without seeing it-partly because of price but also because the salesmen understood the risk I was taking and took the time to walk around the car and describe the few minor blemishes on it. When I buy another I will definitely be going back to Armstrong Massey's. Best of luck with the search.

The one at Melton Mowbray has now been dismissed as it's not as nice as advertised.

However, I've tracked one down at Hunters and I've just checked the site at Armstrong Massey and they have some very nice cars there.

It's noticeable how many carry Oxford registrations. It turns out that this means it's probably an ex Land Rover car. Obviously avoid the silver ones with Oxford plates then (ex Land Rover Experience cars)....
