Heard a loud noise yesterday as something hit the windscreen. It’s well out of sight below the wipers but do you think Autoglass would repair or replace? I could really do without it being replaced because of the hassle with the dashcam which is pretty much welded into position having been fitted professionally.

That looks deep into the glass.

If it should be a repair, get the windscreen guy to re-bond the dash cam mount back on, as he would use the same PU adhesive, as he bonded the screen it with.

Don`t think that's that`s repairable to be honest. In addition to the chip there is also a crack in the screen and there is lots of delamination around the chip. I think that the crack is only going to expand up the screen as time goes on.

I really don't think the 'repair man' in the supermarket carpark is going to do a 'Dalek' suction arm fix on it.

Doc, IIRC you've a Thinkware camera setup, so assuming the installer has not used a different adhesive, that camera base should be mounted on a 3M pad and the kit did include a spare 3M pad.

My wife had a 'chip' on her Toyota which wasn't nearly as bad as yours. It was repaired however the guy that did so commented that it was only just repairable, any worse and it would have been a new screen. Think that may be the case with yours...

Thanks. Glasweld were recommended to me and there is an engineer locally who will be coming to my workplace on Thursday.
I measured the chip (2cm) and its distance from the edge of the glass (8cm) and sent him a picture message. He said that it should be repairable so we shall see... LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Glasweld have been out and repaired it for £25! Very pleased with the results
