England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Indus Silver
Battery drain results.

Hi after all the fault finding and time spent on this subject ,what were the results.is it just a landrover feature or sticking/ faulty relays ,switches .what did you find and how was it sorted.the search goes on.

I'm suspecting the radio now that I know it's permanently live with a Canbus shut down function. However I've not really caught it at it so to speak. Pulling the fuse dropped the current from 0.80A down to 20mA after the car "forgot" about the fact I'd opened and closed the door. However on a later test it was down to 20mA with the fuse back in. Maybe it's intermittent, or maybe it's only if the radio's not manually switched off before shutting down.

On a related note, does any one know if either of the power sockets (2008 GS model) are permanently live? ----------

A live radio will drain the battery - it's a well-known problem with aftermarket radios. If you suspect the radio is not shutting down properly then yes, turn it off manually before switching off the engine. It may solve your problem (although if it's the standard radio this indicates a malfunction somewhere). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I think it's the centre and rear Sockets that are live. at least the rear one is for sure

On earlier FL2 the front console socket is ignition switched, and the rear console socket and boot socket are permanently on.

Later FL2 (from MY13 I think) all sockets are switched, and turn on and off with doors opening and other logic which defies me.

This means I cant keep my coolbox running when out shopping on my later car. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 74k+ miles) (MY2015)

My latest 12v power adaptor has a digital voltage readout. I noticed that this indicated 15.1v when the car was running, so I thought I would get some readings with a proper volt meter.

Car just unlocked after standing just over 1 hr
Socket 12.5v (actual 12.27v) Across Battery 12.35v

Car powered up in accessory mode
Socket 12.2v (11.98v) Across Battery 12.0v

Engine running
Socket 15.1v (14.81v) Across Battery 14.78v

To me this charging voltage is on the high side of normal, I hope that the Battery Management System keeps an eye on this and doesn't overdo it. I say this because my digital readout stays above 15v all of the time I am driving and sometimes is showing 15.5v. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
