Breakdown on Black Friday

A hour ago just missed a multiple accident and as I passed lost my power steering.

Stopped and found belt still on and a jockey pulley loose so no charging or AC as well. Gave up on the planned journey and limped home, arms now shagged as no PS.

So any ideas where we start on this, not aware of others getting a pulley floating issue. Will be at it tomorrow to see if the AC or PS has seized but in the meantime any thoughts ?

At no time did I hear any twang bang or other noise. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I'd start with the aux belt tensioner. The nut on the end can be turned clockwise to release tension (if the tensioner is working OK) , if you can turn it anticlockwise and the belt tightens I'd say the tensioner is knackered. If the tensioner appears to work just take the belt off and turn each of the components which it drives to see which is shagged. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

Should have kept one of those Series Land Rover's Yorky, they would have kept your arms in fine fettle. Laughing Laughing

Go up early and got the little darling (Censored ) jacked up, wheel off and the inner plastic cover off.

Soon found it was indeed a failed tensioner. Not one to be had locally so tracked down a Ebay seller (Maltings off Road ltd) who had one and drove a round trip of around 90 miles to pick it up. Got a new set of Torx inserts and locktite on way home and now fitted.

Not aware of these failing on a regular basis, the one I got hold of is a Chinese knock off in plain box for £30 inc. Mind you I am sure it won't do much worse than the Chinese LR Censored already on it.

Was going to fit new belt but I will keep that story to myself.

Looks like a Yellow Card for the FL2 ! FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
