Car just threw a wobbly

Hello all, so I’ve been having a few issues lately 🙄

I’ve had a rumbling noise coming from the car for a little while so after doing a bit of digging of possible reasons I decided to swap the tyres front to back. Noise seemed quite a bit quieter which I was pretty chuffed with, thought it turned out to be a cheap fix! Then all of a sudden I had a load of warnings flash up on the dashboard. Terrain response failure special programmes off, hdc not working and I think a couple of others. The dashboard was a Christmas tree! Could this have anything to do with the swapping of the wheels of just a massive coincidence?

I’ve done some searches and things from second earth cables to abs sensors to software updates came up. I think things may be about to get expensive

Depends how much wear each tyre is showing compared to its running mates.

I swap my tyres (all same make) front to back say around 10,000 miles to get equal wear. If your tyres are mixed brands and mixed usage the car may well be telling you something with a dickie fit. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Hello bob,

All same brand tyres Toyo cross country a/t. I’m sure it must be something to do with that as it’s too much of a coincidence as I had swapped them an hour before. On my old bmw it had Tyre presser sensors that you just held a button for a few seconds and it would reset. Shame there’s nothing like that on these 🙄

When I had the wheels off I noticed the track rod end was knackered, booked in next week for it to be replaced. I was wondering if that may make the noise I’ve been experiencing. Looking for anything other than he transfer box if I’m honest

Discs look ready for a swap out !

Track rod end worn more likely just to give a steering wobble but it may have a knock effect. Needs doing if badly worn and as you will need the track re-setting doing both could work out cheaper in the long run. A 4 wheel tracking / suspension check with a firm that has the latest gear not a bad idea from time to time. Latest gear means a TV in reception showing you the current track settings and castor and camber settings and you see them being reset live if required. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Only recently had the near side done. Was an mot failure and this side pictured was an advisory. In all honesty when it was done o wasn’t really aware what the were, I’m more used to anti roll bar linkages and control arm ball joints etc or I’d have got it done at the same time. And yeh the brake discs are a little sorry for themselves.

I’m fully immersed in Land Rover ownership now 😂

Also when they have it up on the ramp I’m going to get them to check my wheel bearings and also do the little test Austen from bell engineering advised.

Get it up to speed where the rumbling usually kicks in, if I can hear it still then remove the fuse for the Haldex, if I can still hear it then it’s the transfer box, if not it’s the diff 😩

hope it is not too expensive,but if its anything to do with drivetrain then austen is the MAN Thumbs Up gone
P38 v8 auto no problems,great howle from exhausts when giving it welly
Td5 auto head gasket,no5 pot not uncommon but good car.
1st Tdv6s manual epb problem fixed under warranty(stealer said"never heard of this before,i suggested he looked at d3 forum.
2nd Tdv6 se auto epb
3rd Tdv6 xs auto 2008,swmbo,s favourite.

Cheers rnlisg, I’ve been in contact with him and I’ve seen all the brilliant recommendations for him. Only thing is I’m in catterick so a bit of a drive. My plan is to go to PVT who are fairly local Land Rover specialists and see what they say. Depending their diagnosis and price I may take the trip to Austen so I have piece of mind. I need to source a locking wheel nut aswell as mine shredded itself when I was swapping the wheels 😂

Car has been in the garage a couple of days to cure the rumbling noise. They have confirmed it’s a wheel bearing so thankfully not the transfer box!

On the subject of the wobbly the car threw. They scanned it and there 64 error codes stored on 13 systems!! They cleared them all and took it for a drive and half didn’t come back so they were legacy. They said that more than likely the terrain response and abs errors were probably due to the faulty wheel bearings sending vibrations and irritating he sensors. There’s a few fuel pressure related ones so they’re going to change the fuel filter aswell.

It’s booked back in for next Monday as they could not get the drive shaft out to swap out the bearing. They heated it, lubed it, used impact but nothing would shift it. They mentioned removing the whole axel and putting it in a vice like device and pushing out the driveshaft. Sounds like they had fun! Fingers crossed that the next week or so the oil etc they put on works it’s way in and loosens it up so they can just get on and fix the car so I can have a quiet comfortable drive once again 😂

UPDATE

car is fixed. They had to use a press to force the driveshaft out so they could change the wheel bearing. Drives nice and quietly again now though which is nice!

As for the reduced engine performance , changed the fuel filter and all seems to be well now. No more error codes and no limp mode. The mechanic has warned me to stay away from supermarket fuel aswell unless using an additive. Unfortunately where I live there’s not many other options!

Cost me £284 all in. Not bad at all considering it was looking more and more like the transfer box! Very happy and very relieved 😅
