United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Bali Blue
Passenger Airbag light

With ignition On, the airbag light shows that the passenger airbag is Off although the switch is in the On position. Have tried switching between the On and Off settings but the light still shows that the passenger airbag is Off.
Have used Search but these mainly concern the drivers airbag causing the light to stay On.
Can this be checked/corrected using a code reader? Next step maybe trying a hard reset. 11 GS Bali Blue

PeakWayfarer. Will give it a go with a pax in the seat but reading the manual doesn't indicate this.

Yorky Bob. Haven't got any friends although on Facebook all the lowlife want to be my friend.

Back to my post: I'm assuming when ignition is on, the passenger airbag switch is scanned and if sensed Off then the airbag deployment is inactive and the warning light shows this state. It's only on for a few seconds which is probably why I haven't seen it earlier (I tend to look at the display on start up) 11 GS Bali Blue

If it's only on for a few seconds that this is the self check that confirms the lamp is ok as per the info from Topix in the photo below
Hope this helps

OK PeakWayfarer. But light shows that pax airbag is switched Off whereas the actual switch is in the On position. It's as if the switch isn't being read correctly or if it is then the software has it's knickers in a twist and is flagging up the wrong message. No doubt somehere in the JLR system is a software 'yoof' with a plausible answer. 11 GS Bali Blue

As said it's the lamp test not an air bag or system test, it only lights up for a short time on start up to prove the lamp works.

[From the manual:
'The passenger airbag operational status illuminates yellow when the airbag has been disabled'

So it looks more than a simple light test, it illuminates and states PASS AIRBAG OFF indicating that I've switched off the Pax airbag even though the switch is set to On 11 GS Bali Blue

I take it you are referring to the "passenger airbag off" indicator by the interior light, it will light up for a few seconds when you first switch on the ignition as a lamp test, it only says airbag off and it shows you that IF you were to switch the airbag off it would be able to tell you.
If it illuminates at any other time ie whilst driving and have not switched the airbag off then you have a fault.

OK Richard, if I follow your explanation this indicator light will show 'Passanger Airbag Off' as a light test when ignition is switched on, Thereafter it will be permanently lit IF the pax airbag is switched off.
Maybe I'll have to check a friend's FL2 to confirm. If you're correct I'll buy you a pint! 11 GS Bali Blue

My 2012 Freelander 2 does this as well, i have tried both positions and the warning light beside the interior light show Pass Airbag off then goes out.
