P0299 Fault Code - Turbo Under boost

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I have a P0299 fault code on my TD4. I am totally baffled as to what it could be. I've read all the posts I can find here and i thought I had eliminated everything.

To start at the beginning, I was getting turbo flutter and had a P0045 code (Turbo/ Supercharger boost control solenoid circuit open) and another telling me of over boost (I can't remember the second code). I ordered a new actuator but, whilst waiting for the actuator to arrive, and out with my 6 yr old, I was driving up an incline when the car seemed to not to want to change gear - the revs just kept rising. I was about to use command shift to change up myself when it changed up itself. After that there was no power and loads of black smoke out of the back.

When I plugged in my Nanocom, I had the P0299 code.

Having read through some posts, I can eliminate hoses - replaced after the fault and no splits found in old hoses. Turbo actuator - replaced after the fault. Inter-cooler - replaced after fault.

The lever to operate the vanes moved freely and the turbo rotated ok when moved from the air inlet side

WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE? Big Cry Confused Crying or Very sad Big Cry Confused Crying or Very sad

Any help/ advice/ guidance would be gratefully received

In spring when mine played up it was EGR valve related. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I don't think it's the EGR valve as I've blanked it off. That said, it could be something associated with/ caused by the blanking. It's going into an indy tomorrow. I'm hoping there aren't too many zeros in the bill Laughing

Now in garage

Dropped the car off at the independent Land Rover specialist. he plugged it and checked the turbo to find it is dead. It was full of oil and there was loads of play in the shaft. I've been quoted £1200 plus vat for the repairs Big Cry Evil or Very Mad Big Cry Evil or Very Mad Big Cry

Looks interesting but the Indy I've gone to is going to bolt on a new one. My car is a 10yr old with 120k on the clock but want the piece of mind a new turbo will give over a rebuilt unit

My apologies. I saw the company name and didn't really register much after that. Embarassed Whistle .

Have just had the car back - £1595. I also have the old turbo which has a snapped shaft and knackered bearing seals. The engine oil was draining into the exhaust causing loads of smoke and also into the intercooler. The guy at the garage told me there was about a litre of oil in the intercooler. He said I was lucky the engine didn't 'run on' using oil fumes Shocked .

Any how, all fixed now and drives better than ever.
