As title, I have a very very slight yellow blob of mayonnaise near my oil filler cap. Wiped it down a month ago and it has reappeared.

I have only had to top up the coolant once since I bought the car and it has not used very much at all in the last year. I have heard cylinder heads are strong on these so am hoping it is not that.


Anything else it could be before I get it pressure tested?

Should also say the car only travels 5 miles on a morning and 5 miles on a night through the week. So oil isn't getting very warm.

Almost certainly caused by condensation due to the engine not getting hot enough.

With respect, if that's all the mileage its doing I think your engine will suffer long long. Diesels need to run long, hot and steady for them to last. Have you considered a petrol car ? Jules

On a weekend I normally do 100-150 miles, would that negate the effects of the weekly commute or not. I used to have a petrol but didn't realise diesels did not like short trips.

Neither do petrols. Diesel you knack the DPF etc and Petrol you shaft the bores etc. Get a mountain bike  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks Yorky Bob, I have a road bike that I would love to use but couldn't carry all my tools about on it.

Took it to my local land Rover place with a different issue and they said its unlikely to be condensation build up as big runs on a weekend when the engine gets up to full working temperature would cause the water to evaporate off and it's more like to be an issue with the intercooler/inter cooler seals.

Not sure why they would say that driving 100 - 150 miles on a weekend would stop the condensation build up. The 10 miles you drive on a week day creates the condensation that in turn causes some oil contamination to show on the filler cap you have mentioned. You could drive 1000 miles the next day but the contamination would still be there, it would only go if you wiped the filler cap clean.

The man I spoke to at the garage said to me he thought it was unlikely because I have had the same commute for two years and its only just become a problem. He also said that my weekend drive would prevent the condensation building quickly and if it was due to condensation it would be much more likely to have occurred during winter time rather than the summer months.

Yorky Bob – inside the filler cap it is hard to get a photo because of the darkness and it is such a small amount but I have attempted. As for the oil Shell Helix fully synthetic used 5w 30.
