Clutch woes

Hi guys,

I have been reading the forums here for many years looking for advice on my 56 plate freelander 2 td4 but I now have a problem which does seem to have been covered so I thought I would post a request for help.

My freelander has 130k on the clock of which I have driven 65k. I don't know when the clutch was last done but a few weeks ago (shortly after a service) the clutch became stuck most of the way to floor and had to be pulled back up. I did this and didn't think much of it but since then the clutch has become stuck half way and is doing so more frequently. Also when it does return the final stages seem slow and sluggish. I am hoping it is pipe leak or a master cylinder and not a slave cylinder as I am about use the car for part exchange. I have read on here many threads about the clutch being stuck on the floor but none specify that the clutch pedal gets stuck half way.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Jacks

I have had a quick look underneath around the bell housing and csnt see any fluid. How do I check the clutch fluid level?

I am assuming the clutch uses dot 4 from the brake fluid resevoir. The brake fluid is half way between max and min. The car had a major service about 4 weeks ago.

If no obvious leak (not knowing the system) check the clutch pedal has not now got a broken return spring (if they are fitted). next cheap option is to carry out out a bleed procedure. Once those done you are into spending real money and the cost will be the cost be it a master cylinder or a total clutch replacement. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks Bob.

I don't know if the freelander 2 has a return spring on the clutch pedal but I will look. I don't have any clutch slipping and the btiting point is still about half way down the clutch travel. I will let the dealership i am buying my next car from know that the clutch is sticking and hopefully it won't result in too much loss in revenue but they will take risk on it. If not I will have to see how much we buy any car will pay for it with mechanical issues......
