PAS RESULT!!!

Hi Folks, Had my 08 FL2 Auto now for 18 months, still happy with it and only problem I have had is the PAS filter in the reservoir. Changed it last year because of heavy steering, had to change it again today as it is blocked again.I know I will have to get the system flushed out again this week when I have the time but point is,,, Is this filter really necessary considering how fine the mesh is ??? see attached photos, top half blocked bottom half clear,,, your views please.

The center pipe is the suction pipe so it's strange that only the top was clogged...
As if all the debris are floating and only on that zone accumulate...

Just a thought of the moment....
.
As Alex points out it suggests the sludge is floating.
Now I wonder....
If you put a ring of rag around the reservoir bottle could you fill the bottle to overflowing and float sludge out?
Repeat this daily for say 10 days.
Might this clear the sludge out without dismantling?
After this purging could you then remove the reservoir and back flush with jizer and an airline 'up the spout' and thoroughly dry before refitting???
.
Any comments on this anybody??
.
Kind regards from Fred

Thanks for your input, I thought about using a syringe to suck out the first 10ml off the surface.
Tonight I am going to take the resevoir off again and flush it out with lr pas fluid,I have 2 litres so might as well, again!!

new resevoir will have only been fitted for 24 hours and covered 12 miles today, Very Happy

Did you back flush the system out?
And are you getting the whining noise? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

flushed it out with 1 litre every time, I have just sucked the reservoir out with a syringe and filled up with fresh fluid, looks like I will have to fit a new one again or ??? the fluid I just removed was dark green, slightly darker than when it was put in about 3 weeks ago.... No whining noise tho,,,

Was this just the reservoir? Think my dealer back flushed the rack and pump also. That was maybe two years ago and it's been fine ever since. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I have bought another pas reservoir about £15, I am going to make a filter to fit over the existing filter that can be removed and cleaned,
