Malfunctioning door lock actuator – solved!

Recently my beloved developed very annoying habit – upon locking the car with the key fob, all the doors would lock, except the front driver side – if you pull the handle, it will open and the alarm will sound.

Initially I thought it might be some electronic coding gone wrong, but google search pointed me to a faulty door lock actuator. Apparently there are small motors in there that sometimes stop working. I decided to replace the door lock actuator. A call to my local Land Rover dealer revealed that it will cost me about $650 ($330 for the part, $320 labour). This made my jaw drop. There shouldn’t be so much pain in the world!

So I went back to google and within seconds ebay offered me the part for $81.30 (£49.95), plus delivery from the UK $8.14 (£5.00), all up $89.44. It took me one hour to finish the job (there are a couple of good videos on YouTube) and now my beloved is locking good again. A specialist who knows this stuff would do it in twenty minutes. There are no special tools required. Go figure. 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 SE

I’ve got the same problem with my rear drivers side door. Any chance you could post the links to the part on eBay and the videos to change.? Cheers

Hi Globe,

The two videos I found on YouTube:

For the ebay seller I'll send you a message - not sure if it is appropriate to list it here. 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 SE
