lazy driver

I could walk or pushbike to work but i like taking the car, Will using my car for only 2 miles each way Monday to Friday cause any issues due to the short journey and not getting to normal temperature
we mainly use the car at weekends and once a month towing our caravan, running faultlessly

Your short daily journey is not good enough to burn out the carp you generate with a cold engine. Get the bike out.

A big burn out every couple of weeks is going to be needed. Banging Head FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

the fact that you use your car more at weekends and once a month for towing negates possible short journey issues.

just keep doing what your doing Thumbs Up

SWMBO only does 4 miles to work and back 4 days each week in her car, and the odd run out as and when. What we found that this caused a build up of water in the exhaust box over time and it rotted through. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

i have never had a issue with short driving to the office, half a mile away, often the car sits there and i do a longer 30/40mph journey through the day, around the town/villages

never had a issue with anything blocking up, since the FL2 was launched

only issue is, even with longer journeys higher mpg and only using premium fuel i have a yearly averaged 23-25mpg (full tank to tank) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Short runs aren't good for the turbo either.
You should always floor it about once a week just to get the thing spinning through it's full cycle.

Weeks on end with no use is bad, not getting to operating temp on each journey is bad. Beer is good so once a week have a drive out for a pint at a nice pub several miles away, take away on return optional. Laughing FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Even with a petrol car I walk to the shops & other daily tasks, it takes longer finding parking. It is a short walk so I actually walk further to make it worthwhile.

Never had an issue, 2 Fl2, 1 Evoque, 1 DS, 2 D4 and now D5, all with DPFs and short commutes. Though I take them on a long run every now and then to allow the DPF to regen. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

at the moment I am trying to make use of my wifes old Corsa 1.3 Petrol for my short journey to work (max 3 miles each way) to save a little wear and tear on the Freelander.
That said I used my Hyundai with DPF for the journey for a few years without issue, just made sure it had longer runs every so often to give it change to re-gen.

I know I should cycle really but what can I say Embarassed Laughing

To all who are doing small runs have you ever found a small yellow blob of mayonnaise looking stuff in your oil filter spout near the cap? I'm talking a very small about.

its condensation in the rocker cover/cam cover, caused by the short runs.ie water in the oil.
