Right rear humming noise

Hi guys,

as per the title states the car has developed a "humming" noise on the rear right side. I have rotated the tires to no avail. I am going thru the paperwork when the father in law bought the vehicle and it has a replacement rear diff at somepoint in life around 160k's, it has 225ks as of today. it is a humming noise that starts at 40kph and does not go away until you stop. it does not change tones or anything it keeps the same humm whether you are accelerating or decel.

all i remember doing was undo the handbrake cables before this started or this started before the handbrake adjustment just didnt notice.

can anyone suggest a independent/ specialist around melbourne aus to have a look.

I am starting to get frustrated with this car. I need help bad we are about to have baby 2 and wallets are empty! cant really afford to loose this car after the other one getting stolen last december. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

i have bridgestone dueller h/l. i must admit that the tire thread isnt much. maybe 3mm give or take, thats being generous too! i have ordered the tires this week. i ordered continental cross contacts.

**edit the rear diff was replaced via exchange on jan-14 @ 139ks. heres to hoping its just the tires

That little amount of tread depth will certainly make them noisy imho & as they are due to be changed, is always a good first option to try. Thumbs Up (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

well, another finding that i think points towards more the bearing. if i go thru a sweeping right turn it retains the sound, BUT if its a sweeping left the sound is gone. this points me towards being the left bearing shot, correct?? im having the tires replaced this thursday and will report.

Im happy to report that it ended up being the wheel bearing. It didn't make much noise when the hub was removed but it made that awful sound.

Nice one getting it sorted but that's bearings for you even a small amount of wear can generate a lot of noise.
