Buying a 3.2V6 from 2007, yes or no?

Hi guys,

After years and years of driving a Disco Diesel I am now looking at a fully specced HSE V6 petrol from 2007 with 230000Km.
I am not afraid of the milage as long as its well kept. I drove 407000Km in my D3 prety comfortable.

So what can I expect of an FRL2?
And what specific issues or potential problems should I look at when I am going to check out the car and take it for a drive?

Any tips and tricks are highly appreciated Thumbs Up

Interesting one this, given that few petrol models were sold in the UK I wonder how many components in a petrol version are identical to the diesels? In particular is the rear diff the same? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I know its a Volvo V6 and Aisin autobox.

As far as I'm aware the drivetrain is the same apart from the engine, and I'm not aware of any particular issues with the V6, so you can probably treat it as any other FL2 - check for noises from the rear, particularly when turning. Check all the terrain response modes are selectable with no warning messages. Ditto HDC. The V6 is chain-driven, so no cambelt change to worry about. Then it's just the usual checks you'd do with any car.

No, not a V6. Try i6. as in INLINE. So many people - including many so called Land Rover experts , get this wrong .Then get all shirty when I call them out on this .
Freelander 1, 2.5 V6. Freelander 2, 3.2 i6.
If in doubt, check the little badge on the back. Thumbs Up
Just one of those things that niggles at me. If I were a better person, I'd let it go over my head. But unfortunately I seem to get wound up by the little things.........I'm sure there's a medical term for it. Question

Wales 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Mauritius Blue

The Volvo engine (a Straight 6, known as Si6 - short inline 6) is pretty solid from the little feedback you see of it (so few here in the UK)
No timing belts to change is one bonus (gears/chain I beleive) and a straight 6 is inherently smooth, but expect much of the rest of the drivetrain and vehicle systems to be as per the Diesel.
Never had a try of a Freelander with the engine but I have been in a Volvo with the Turbo variant (2.9 rather than the 3.2 NA in the Freelander) and can confirm that went well!"

Well I love mine. Searched and searched to buy the right F2. All were diesel. All were expensive and tired with high miles. Finally, against my better judgement, I found my i6 and decided to buy it. Best decision I think. I came from an F1 Td4. Although it performed dutifully, it never set the road alight. I loved my F1 V6, but it drank fuel like Oliver Reed. However it's in a better place now - with the Race2Recovery team. My F1 Td4 is also being rallied in the Freelander Challenge.

143750 miles, don't see a problem with that if it's been looked after, oil changes are a must, mines on 104500.
brakes are different size from the diesel.
anybody know how many were sold in the uk? Common sense isn't very common.

Sorry to the OP> Realised I was just ranting on and on. Not being helpful.
My advice would be to take one on a test drive, as long as you've driven the 2.2 diesel first. The difference should be immediate. You'll know which you prefer !
Now you need to weigh up the extra fuel costs versus diesel and the dreaded road tax at £525 PA. Also insurance may be a little higher too, but not always I've found.
Worst mpg I had was 15.8. Best was 34mpg but that was motorway in cruise control. Manage on average the low 20's.
Most i6 are HSE spec so you get all the toys you need.
It's pretty quiet cruising at motorway speeds as long as you're not planting your foot hard and I find it a relaxing drive. No problems getting out at junctions or overtaking.
Volvo's are notorious for getting spaceship miles out of the engines so a high miler with service history wouldn't put me off.
However, if you find you're looking at one with a loud engine, then walk away. Make sure it changes gear smoothly too as even an oil change in the autobox can be very expensive, let alone changing the box itself.
Oh, and instinct. If it doesn't quite feel right to you, again walk away. Trim, interior detail etc are all easily replaced, but drivetrain issues will be expensive. I'd rather go for something a little tatty looks-wise than a minter with a mechanical issue.

And I do apologize for mixing up a V6 with an i6. Embarassed Rookie mistake.

Hopefully have the time to have a look up close and personal.
