Black Edition Trim Issue

Hi Everyone

I hope someone can help me. I bought a 2012 Black Edition FL2 last year and I am delighted with the whole car except for the trim around the side lights, boot strip and front grill. The trim is plastic coated and it has blistered badly and in some spots left the underlying plastic showing through. It makes the car look in poor condition.

I tried to email Land Rover and got a nothing response so I am wondering if anyone else here has a black edition and if they have the same issue & what they did to fix it. The alternative is to have all of it replaced with the silver trim which looks smarter and I wonder if anyone has any ideas how much this would cost?

Its a real shame as it does make the car much less attractive and I would like to keep this one for many years.

Any help or guidance gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance

I don't believe Land Rover ever did a black edition of the FL2 (other than the 2013> white edition and black edition which were based on the S spec model)

If the grills and other plastic parts were done in black then it has most likely been done by a previous owner, you wont get anything out of land rover for it.

sounds like plasti dip paint has been used, which is pretty good stuff and cheaper than a full spray job. But doesn't last as long.

if it is plasti dip then just get a hair dryer on it and it will peel off. you can then get it re-done.

the pics are in your gallery....

definitely after market fitted as its carbon fibre effect (looks like either a dip or a wrap) Land Rover wont help you at all with that.

you only options are to either strip it all off (and maybe re cover) or replace
side vents can be bought cheap and just pop out with a bit of force, easy fix (£10 -£50 depending on standard silver or up to gloss black)
front grill surround is integral to the grill, which is bonded to the front bumper but can separated
boot handle can be swapped, 1-2 hours, replacement handles can be bought for £100 already painted

RogB is absolutely correct
Your car looks to have been subjected to after market modifications that are NOT going to be accepted by LR as their problem Big Cry
AFAIK there was never a "black edition" of the FL2
There are plenty of other posts on here with tips and advice on how to deal wth the bits affected - good luck Thumbs Up No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS

Wasnt there a proper black or white edition FL2? I seem to recall something I saw in a dealers showroom a few years back?

Theres a filth edition local to me, a farmer who carries lambs in the back, its the dirtiest FL2 Ive ever seen and hes the dirtiest farmer as well, and inside the car looks like a field. Surprised

Just the grill surround and the strip on the back are not black.

There was a Black edition and a White edition from factory in 2013, based on the S spec. Really just white or black paint with rear privacy glass.

The thing is the interior has the same finish to some parts too and it has leather seats where the black and white spec was cloth. All very confusing to me. The interior looks factory fitted to me but the trim could be aftermarket.

Hi Jerry, as stated before this is a non standard Land Rover production, it is the result of a previous owner modifying parts to reflect their own taste. The carbon fibre effect parts have been dipped to provide the effect and this can be done on almost any surface, interior trim is often modified in this way. The seats you have are not ones I have seen before, these too may have been re-trimmed at some point in their life. Probably the best path for you is to get a copy of the original build sheet, this way you can compare how it left the factory and how it is now.

I like the seat trim there Thumbs Up

But its definitely NOT Land Rover trim, its all after market including the armrest.

A large (non LR) dealer near to me produces their own styling for Range Rover Sports and full size Range Rover. They call it FANTOM but its not LR endorsed or anything. You may find a past dealer has done the mods, or a past owner.
