Scotland 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Izmir Blue
Limp mode

Hi there, had my 2007 Freelander 2 for over a year and never had any major problems, but recently have an issue of it going into limp mode (Restricted Engine Performance)

It happens mostly when under load either heavy acceleration especially on slip roads onto motorway or climbing a steep gradient.

Plugged an OBD reader in and got codes and description for Low Fuel Pressure, when getting live data it shows fuel pressure between 8000 and 13000 psi (at Motorway speeds)

Any ideas on the cause. TIA

When was the fuel filter last changed & was it a known “Brand” one? (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

How many miles ?
When was it last serviced?

First thing I'd do is change the fuel filter for an OEM one. I believe Purflux make the JLR "genuine " ones. Jules

Hi, it's been almost a year since last service, just oil and air filters.
You reckon it just needs a service and maybe the fuel filter this time around?

TIA

So the fuel filter wasn’t changed last year? Now you’re complaining about symptoms that all point to fuel starvation? You own what was an expensive car. Just because it’s old now it won’t get any less expensive to service and if you want it to run properly you have to service it properly.

The JLR schedules only requires the fuel filter (and air filter) to be changed on alternate years during the B service not the A service. Jules

I change the engine oil and oil filter every 6K miles along with the air filter and change the fuel filter every 12K miles.
I only use genuine or OEM parts (Ive always used Genuine fuel filters as they are known to be a source of problems)

My FL2 does only 5K miles per year. Jules

Not complaining, it's my first LR and I've never needed to replace a fuel filter any my previous cars.
I only came on here to ask for advise not to be looked down upon.

Yes that wasn't the most helpful response.
I change mine every second service and do mine at 10k intervals so fuel filter every 20k. Works perfectly well for me. Are you getting any fault codes?
A split intercooler hose is common and leads to limp mode as well. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Which is why we’re pointing him in the direction of the fuel filter initially isn’t it? Of course it could be something more serious, but the fuel filter is the first place to start IMHO.
I don’t recall split intercooler hoses bringing up fuel pressure codes, but I guess anything is possible, it’s a LR after all Very Happy. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

The Freelander fuel filter needs changing every 24 months or every other oil change. This isn't unusual for a diesel, as modern vehicles filter all the fuel in the tank over time, as excess fuel the engine didn't need is returned to the tank. This will clog the filter element faster than a filter that only filters what the engine uses. It's not unusual to see change intervals of 24 to 50k on modern vehicles, and it should be kept too, or fuel starvation issues can arise.

Make sure you only use genuine LR filters, or OEM filters that have the word Purflux on the top. Oh and you'll need the filter change hand pump accessory too, or you can't purge the air out. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

No sorry not the code but split ic hose does trigger limp mode.
