Freelander 2 drivetrain question

I am having a real problem trying to understand the Freelander 2 4wd drivetrain components- I need a diagram so I can 'see' it and understand it. I have searched far and wide and I cannot find a single diagram that explains it! Can anyone help please with a link to a suitably annotated diagram or know where I can find one?

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

"Angle transmission" is the Transfer box driven direct from gearbox.
"All wheel drive clutch" is Haldex unit controlled by TCU (Traction Control Unit)

Brilliiant - easy to understand diagram. I wrongly thought the haldex was upfront of the prop. Where did the diagram come from?

Thank you for that you are a star! I searched for Freelander 2 drivetrain and every other option I could think of but not 'haldex ....'! At last I finally have an idea of where the various components are etc! Thanks also for translating the terms into the commonly used ones Thumbs Up !

Good evening

The image in dunkley201's post of 2.01pm 24 June 2017 doesn't seem to be there and googling Haldex drivetrain diagram Freelander 2 isn't bringing it up either.

Anyway took the Freelander 2 manual for a service today and was told that there was a clunking from the front which would need the angle drive unit replacing. Am I correct in thinking that this the same as the power transfer unit ?

Thanks

Download the freebie JLR workshop manual from this site (go to home...) over 3000 pages of info with good diagrams

What can be confusing is that the front diff is in the gearbox and sends a drive shaft right the centre of the PTU and out to the RH front wheel. The PTU takes power from an outer tube attached to the front diff and turns via a bevel gear to the propshaft.

Angle drive unit

Yes, the angle drive unit is aka the Power Drive Unit or PTU.

Sorry my pics have disappeared, out of my control. Seems to do this after several years have gone by (in this case 6![/b] 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Many thanks -the price of parts , labour and VAT is coming out at around £1200-£1500 . I only do around 6000 miles a year mainly onroad . If I don't have it done now , am I storing up even more expense in a few months time or is the worse case scenario that I just lose 4wd?

Have you spoken to Bell Engineering about your clunk? Jules

Norbert at https://www.freelanderspecialist.com/ fitted an upgraded PTU to my Freelander when this was giving issues, it would be worth giving him a call as well.

To throw another name into the ring as I've seen from posts that Bell are very busy currently. Speak to Chell or Warren at MuddyMods, They are a fitting agent for Bell. I've had experience with Freelander Specialists and MuddyMods and you won't go wrong with either. Smile

Bell Engineering do an upgraded version with hardened spines or something like that.
