Wow that's not good, I hope you manage to get it sorted without too much hurt to your wallet. Mines an 07 plate and I'm going to get the belt done soon, think I may be getting it done sooner with the pulley bolt replaced now!

Odd sort of failure, if the engine or another part locked unexpectedly you might get a knock on effect to shear a bolt like that with no warning but just to go like that is tough luck.

Engines with swirl flaps have had these break off and get into the engine and at one time was there not a series of cam shafts breaking where they fitted into the pump on the opposite end to the belt. Big Cry FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Makes me wonder if the bolt was overtightened and it's a case of metal fatigue. As far as I can see the bolt is only there to stop the pulley coming off as the woodruff key carries the torque required to pull the belt around. Either way you should expect at least some valve damage and possibly pistons too. My son had a Renault Clio that threw a cambelt when the water pump failed and half of the valves had to be replaced. Apparently most "cambelt failures" are caused by water pump and tensioner problems rather than actual belt failure. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have just had this problem fixed at a total cost of £1400 (I had no warrenty), turned out that because the bolt snapped the camshaft itself cracked under the pressure and yes a few bent valves, I had only had the cambelt and water pump changed 6 weeks before, two garages said new engine both LL indes costing me a fortune for the pleasure of them telling me so, but fair play to the garage that fixed it they have done a great job.

Most if not all manufacturers will state that injector pipes(which are listed on the quote) are replaced with new pipes due to the extremely high injector pressures used on a common rail engine and the fact that it can be very hard if not impossible to get a leak free seal if they are re-used.
