Track time in the Land Rover

I had an opportunity yesterday to take the Land Rover around Watkins Glen International (race tack). Strange I know!

Story is this: I was away with my wife and our Aussie pup for a long weekend celebrating our Anniversary. So needless to say we took the Land Rover not my CLK55 Sad Regardless, being in the area I wanted to head to Watkins Glen since it's an amazing race track with some serious races each year and even more amazing history. I couldn't pass the opportunity to get out on there and take a closer look! Thankfully I married the right lady and have a pup who's good at keeping it down in cars (mostly). And on non-major event days, they offer the public the chance to take a few laps.

Needless to say the LR wasn't setting any records but it was a REALLY UNIQUE Laughing experience tracking a LR. I kept envisioning the LR having a monocle and this being the moment it falls out.

So here's how it went: The track has some serious grades and putting the trans in S -I'm struggling to type the word- SPORT mode, didn't really do the job. So tapping +/- through gears was the way to go to make sure I exited turn and began inclines with the power I needed. Next was clipping as much of the apex as I could (or all of it).

When we stopped for photos I was complimented by the Pace (truck) driver on doing a great job picking lines but more interestingly he also complimented the FL2 on being quicker than he expected. Said that not many SUV's that are that off road worthy would be able to keep the speed it did around the turns.

To be honest I felt like I was going a million miles per hour around the turns in the LR then when I watched the video my wife took I couldn't help but laugh and contemplate the memory it was taking on my phone. In all it was a lot of fun and a really cool experience. Plus there was a 991 GT3 RS there that thankfully had wipers to clean off my drool!

Lol yeah sure I cought the Porsche. And I turned the terrain response knob into my nitrous control valve Wink

Sadly I probably had more fun driving my slow car fast then he had driving his fast car slow.

BTW my tires are Michelin Premier LTX's which I highly recommend
