Oil Pressure Warning Light

Searched for posts on this subject but nothing appears to have a conclusion.
Problem is oil pressure light occasionally comes on at tick-over (800 rpm) especially after a long run.
There is mention on here of the oil pressure relief valve but no conclusion to the post.

If anyone can shed any light on this subject it would be appreciated.
And I will finish the post . Very Happy Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.

Thanks for that but it has only done about 5k since the last oil and filter change and I only use mobile 3000 full synthetic oil. I'm thinking possibly something more serious like the oil pump or pressure relief valve.
It would be nice if people would finish posts then it would help others.
Thing is it only does it at the end of a long run. No problem when cold or part way along. Returned yesterday from a 120 mile journey, at the end of the motorway pulled up at a roundabout, revs dropped to idle and light came on. Set off again and light went out. Didn't come on again.
Second time its done this? Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Sorry Mikey I can't remember.
What I do know is that L/R, Ford and PSA all use the same filter and the price is reflected in what ever name is on the box. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Thanks for that Alex
My filter etc. has been in just under 12 months and approx 5k miles. Service required end of this month.
I don't intend to drive it until the problem is resolved.
My intention is to do the following.
1. Remove sump pan and clean oil pump etc.
2. Replace oil pressure switch
3. New filter and oil

All other service items at same time.

Car only has 53k miles on clock so don't think its engine ware. Issue has only arisen with in last two weeks and only happed twice.

Hopefully doing the above will cure it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Get fault codes read first.

When I was in the trade we connected a master oil gauge to the oil system to read the real oil pressure.

From manual

The oil pump creates a maximum oil pressure of 6.5 bar (94.3 psi) at 4500 rpm, with a delivery rate capable of 50 liters (53 US quarts) per minute. A pressure relief valve within the oil pump outlet protects the oil pump and lubrication system components from system over-pressure. The valve will open at approximately 8 bar (116 psi) to relieve excess oil pressure, directing the relieved oil back into the oil pan.

Remove the oil pressure sensor. REFER to: Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) Sensor (303-14B Electronic Engine Controls - TD4 2.2L Diesel, Removal and Installation). Connect the oil pressure gauge and adaptor in place of the oil pressure sensor.
Start the engine and check for leaks at the gauge connection. Allow the engine to idle and monitor the oil pressure. Raise the engine speed to 4000 rpm and monitor the oil pressure. Is the oil pressure approximately 1.6 bar (23 lb/inē) at idle, and 3.1 bar (45 lb/inē) at 4000 rpm? Yes No fault is indicated at these pressures, oil pressure is considered normal. No Low pressure may indicate a problem with: oil pump, filtering, clearances within the engine. Check if there are any other indications of engine faults (noise, etc). High pressure may indicate a blockage in the lubrication system. If this is not resolved, high oil pressure will lead to engine oil leaks and other failures.

Thanks Bob
Don't have access to oil gauge at the moment, so I'll have to go with a service as above first. If problem persists I'll have to delve deeper as you suggest. Thumbs Up

Quick edit.
Just ordered oil pressure test kit. Very Happy Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

They all use the same filter, but the lower quality aftermarket items are known to cause pressure issues...

Hi Mikey
Had a rake around and I think the oil filter is a Crosland.
New filter on order is Bosch. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
