United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Santorini Black
Absolute landrover virgin

Went out car shopping last weekend, looked at a few off roaders. Came away spending more than I wanted (as usual).

Wife doesn't drive, we go camping once a year and I'm in my van rest of the time. I know it's a but thirsty but my miles are less than 3k a year.

Freelander 2 i6 hse 3.2 v6 petrol. Love it. Sticky caliper on back rear disc I think , bit of a clunk after brakes have been on.

Any opinions advice welcome.
Thanks

Could be the handbrake shoes not releasing. The handbrake on your car is drum and shoes. The drum is the central part of the rear discs.

They are prone to problems by virtue of the design in which the moving parts in the brake assembly tend to seize. Not hugely difficult to fix though.

At 10 years its the major service. Proof of this being done exactly as per the service schedule may save you a great deal of money in the future. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

thanks yorky bob.

never had a car with so many toys on it. reading the manuals trying to figure stuff out. only just found the dvd player for the sat nav tonight!

despite living in Germany for three years, couldn't get the sat nav to work here in the uk.
I'm a typical man, try and fix it first, when that fails RTFM!

I fix boilers for a living, teaches me to have a dabble first for 5mins, then grab the MI's.

whats the average cost of this 100k service?

any hints or tips at what needs looking at?

much appreciated.

Search the site for service sheets. Not sure what a I6 needs but its a big hit on a TD with cam belt etc. Seek out fellow i6 owners, try the OZ boys as they run them. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Its not considered appropriate on this forum to admit to reading the owners manual...

Very Happy The clue is the i in i6. Inline 6 cylinder.
However, even Land Rover Owner International Magazine has referred to it as a V6 . Must be getting confused over the 6 cylinder thing, with the Freelander 1 having the 2.5 V6.
That was a KV6, a Rover engine - something again referred to by those supposedly in the know who claim it to be a Honda derived engine. Shocked

Anyway, welcome to the forum - and above all to the exclusive (here in the UK at least) Freelander 2 i6 club.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the info RealBeale, I'm defo not an engine/motor man, but am willing to learn., as you can probably tell.

I've only had cars that perform basic functions. Shopping, carrying kids, mil etc etc from a to b. This time I decided to buy something I actually wanted and liked.

Watched a couple of youtube videos at weekend, stripped cleaned and refitted two rear calipers on Sunday, which, is a first for me. Give me a boiler and I'll strip it down and reassemble it no problem. Ferrying the wife and kids about, I'm a bit more careful.

MIL? Well..........
