Tribal Wisdom

The tribal wisdom of the Dakota Indians of North America, passed on from generation to generation, says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount.

However, in modern business, largely because of the heavy investment factors to be taken into consideration, often other strategies have been tried with dead horses, including the following:

• Buying a stronger whip.
• Changing riders.
• Threatening the horse with termination.
• Appointing a committee to study the horse.
• Lowering the standards and expectations so that dead horses can be included.
• Reclassifying the dead horse as “living impaired”.
• Hire outside contractors or suppliers to ride the dead horse.
• Providing additional funding to increase the horse’s performance.
• Do a case study to see if lighter riders would improve the horse’s productivity.
• Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses - aka benchmarking.
• Harness several dead horses together for increased speed.

A generous co-forum member, whom will remain nameless unless he wishes to step forward is riding in on his very much alive horse and has offered to help so hopefully my option has increased from waiting for JLR to "part the red sea"....... Rolling Eyes MY15

At last some parts to get me underway with this project. Passenger side rear cargo module mount LR007984 have mounted the RSE & DVB-T module stack on. Relatively easy as two of the three studs lined up with mounting points. Also have added the LVDS cable which forms part of the digital communication signal between the two modules with extra cable length cable tied to the rear of the mount to keep things tidy. Easier to do whilst it's all out of the car. LVDS plug from screen and associated pwr/CAN wiring plugs mounted on their carrier which attached to one of the holes under each seat.

Rear remote is now in its place in the rear seat arm rest which is where the USB & composite inputs will also be, more on that later.

Next is to mount the module stack in the car whilst I wait for the MOST harness and CVBS harness which Cambo is making for me. MY15

The Meridian RSE system is the same for all Land Rover/Range Rover models. Same module, screens, headphones & remote. The Freelander 2's rear seat arm rest is used in the Evoque and Discovery Sport. MY15

Whilst I've been waiting for parts to arrive I've had some time to think what I want from the Rear Media System and what it's capable of doing as I've learnt with a lot of Land Rovers systems that the same system is used throughout the entire product range but a lot of the time it's purposely limited for certain models. This also applies to the systems themselves, Why? so you buy the options or upgrade to a more expensive model, simple really.
One part of this system that I've been waiting to get my hands on was the USB/Aux input interface.

I bought one thinking that there was required circuitry in this module important to the function of the Rear Media System. But after opening it up realized it's a simple receptacal for the USB and CVBT only. This is good news!

I couldn't understand why Land Rover persisted with CVBT even more so that the same module has a USB input, it's old technology really and no one really plugs in game consoles or the like. The current technology is gaming online through internet streaming or streaming any content. But I go back to my original point of why LR does this, they really want you to purchase their "telematics" package so the car has 3g connectivity, you get my point.

Now that I'm not using the LR Rear Media USB/Aux input interface this means I'm free to make my own harness and Frankly is a sigh of relief as the plug in the rear of the interface panel, Mitsumi are a nightmare as they're keyed to each specific use. Land Rover don't even have these available as spares. I already have the USB Type 2 LVDS lead which I will need to strip one end and attach to the new USB input.

Anyhow my plan is now to just have a USB input in the rear, either behind the centre armrest or in the centre console, I haven't committed to either as yet. I have sourced a rather nice looking USB input for the armrest or I will use my spare Freelander 2 USB/Aux input interface that I replaced earlier for the InControl dual USB. Either way I will have a total of 3 USB charging points available, USB interface panel centre console, Telephone Interface USB centre console and the Rear Media USB input.

Because I'm ditching the CVBT inputs this has allowed me to use this input to the module for an Apple TV module which means I will be able to have 4G internet streaming (not LR's 3G) and Apples full suite available not only to the rear screens but to the front screen also. So Apple Music, Apple Movie's and tetherable to all occupants via my phones hot spot! Why have your smart phone in your car and also having a SIM for the car when you can use your phone......because landrover wants to sell you their "telematics" option package.

All I will need to to is convert the Apple TV from AC to DC (easy) and put inline a HDMI to CVBS converter. More on this later but that's the plan. MY15

If you car went into a LR dealer and had a software update would this override all the ccfs that you have altered Stuart ? MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Doesn't work that way.
Dealer couldn't really do anything even if they wanted to as they don't have the access to change my CCF.
Even if they did I would know they did as I would be able to see they accessed my CCF.
Software updates and CCF editing are two different procedures.
Only way would be to download the "Asbuild" file to the vehicle which would return the CCF to the day it left the factory, something I can do at any time, ie default to factory settings. MY15
