Starter Motor brands

Hi,

I'm currently living in Islamabad and am planning to buy a replacement starter motor the next time I'm back in the UK as the current one has some issues and is being reconditioned as we speak. There seem to be several brands of starter motor for the Freelander 2, are there any to be recommended or avoided?

Thanks,
Chris P.

My own experience years ago would be that a local repair in a place like you are in would be a good repair. Old engineering principals and a stater armatures can be rewound as well as new contacts etc, etc.

I think some here just change the solenoid pack with good cheap results especially when its off for other work, a search will turn that up. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks, I agree the quality of the work here is a good standard, but eventually I'll need the whole starter replaced and they cannot be sourced locally. Due to the nature of my job I am exempt from any custom duties so can save around 50% if I buy a starter in the UK and bring it back. What I'm not familiar with is whether brands like Denso are reliable or not. I don't want to go to all that trouble to find I bought a poor quality part.

Denso will certainly be reliable, major Japanese global supplier of original equipment. I used to work for their radiator division 40 years ago Rolling with laughter 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

You won't need many starters in the life of your car, as you can move goods cheaply enough get plenty of service parts UK sourced then possibly to include brake pads.

Hope you know a good denter out there. Laughing I drove to Islamabad and back some 40 plus years ago in a transit van. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
