United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Ipanema Sand

This is all very fascinating stuff, but in reality, who really, apart from the Japanese trains, lives their life to the fractions of a second?

Does no one sit for a moment and just let the world pass by for a short while and reflect?

As has previously been said, I can think of better things to spend a few grand on, how about a healthy donation to children in need and help those who, as I am sure lots would agree, have life changing issues to deal with that most of us hope we will never ever experience.

If you contributed 2000 to Children in Need good for you ,but I suspect that if you had a couple of grand spare you wouldnt .

I didnt and I dont feel the least bit guilty , mind you I didnt spend one single minute watching it .

Is it just watches that bring out your criticism ? Or do we have to consider perhaps not owning other grown up toys such as Cameras, iPhones , golf clubs, shotguns , fly rods, binoculars , motor bikes , hang gliders , jet skis , taking summer holidays , putting up a new conservatory , running an unnecessary Chelsea Tractor ?

Life is all about choices and its each to their own. As George Best said I spent most of my money on booze and women - the rest I wasted.  2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I watch children in need and there are loads of deserving causes, some heart rendering.

but surely we should not avoid treating ourselves to things that we enjoy, especially if we have worked hard to be able afford them ?

do you really think we should feel guilty ?

New addition to the family. I bought this G-Shock as a work watch. Tough, shockproof, waterproof, solar powered and it won’t matter too much if it gets scratched or bashed. So now I have a Tag, a Speedmaster and this and the wife says “Why have you got three watches exactly the same?” Women!

Still mulling over the Tag. New job coming with a higher salary, a general pay rise backdated to September (eventually Rolling Eyes )
and my birthday next Saturday. If I do buy, it won’t be until I’ve started my new job in April but I wonder about the difference here with the strap.

Both watches are the same but the second one at £900 has a nylon strap for a more sporty look and will be easily adjustable. The first one has a traditional metal strap for a smarter look at £1000.

Which do you prefer?

Of the two, I prefer the metal bracelet. The nylon one looks like a nato one - threaded under the watch and over the spring bars. You can buy NATO’s quite cheaply but you'd be surprised at the cost of original straps and bracelets. Most people would advise to buy the watch with the bracelet and buy any other straps separately. I'd think hard before paying full retail price for a new watch (initial depreciation is shocking) and although quartz is cheaper and more accurate, I personally prefer a mechanical movement. More traditional in my mind. If I was buying another watch, any watch, I’d consider secondhand or grey market. I bought my Omega from watchfinder.co.uk and it was a grey import, three months old, never worn with box, tags and papers and still with 3 years 9 months international guarantee remaining. It came from a boutique in Italy and still had the price tag on it - €7,400. I saved £1,250 on the UK retail price. I’m currently looking for a nice thin, hand wound mechanical dress watch and I’ll probably buy pre-owned as they’re much better value.

I bought my Omega with a steel bracelet but wifey also bought me the genuine Omega leather strap and deployment clasp as part of my birthday present - £180 for the strap and another £180 for the clasp! Still, saves fiddling with a buckle. Whistle I bought myself a spring bar tool and chop and change between the strap and the bracelet to change the look of the watch. Currently on its leather strap as it suits the vintage look of the watch.

It’s hard to get an idea about watches without trying them on (I tried the same watch on, and others, every time I went anywhere near an Omega boutique) so if it’s a special purchase keep trying it on until you are 100% sure. Buy the right one and you’ll have it a long time. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
