2007 FL2 XS Towing Electrics Query

Hi guys

I have just purchased my first Land Rover after a few years of running Pajero's. It's a very nice one owner 2007 FL2 XS Auto in Izmir Blue which I would like to tow with. It already has some sort of towing bracket attached to the rear (see attached) which I assume is for a swan neck towball. It looks like the electrics kit has been removed (if there ever was one), but my question is - is there any way of telling whether the ECU software update for towing has been carried out before taking it to a dealer? If it has, is it just a case of reconnecting a dedicated wiring kit, or will the car recognise that the kit has been disconnected and revert back to its previous config?

Thanks in advance

Andy

A good code reader and mechanic/auto electrician can tell you but by then you may as well have got the kit fitted. Later cars (MY13) are plug and play I understand.

I had a load of bother with my MY10 going into limp mode for first few months and I am convinced it was a botched tow bar fitment at the LR dealers from new so I would find a guy who fits them all day long in your area and crack on IMO. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

have a look up behind the exhaust at the towbar crossbar and see if it has a sticker or label on it.ref leccy,s I had a landrover 13 pin kit put on by a witter agent, wanted a "proper one"so it linked up properly with the car.
used witter agent for some years now for peace of mind.if you go to an approved agent they will no doubt have a look and tell you what it is and if a suitable "neck"can be found. Thumbs Up

I also asked a guy I know at a main dealer about fitting electrics and he said some send them out to a specialist towbar company to be done Shocked gone

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll have a good look underneath at the weekend and see if I can see a manufacturer.

I had a look under the car and it appears to be a factory fitted Land Rover towbar made by Brink.

The good news is that the electrics are already fitted to the car, they have just been turned around and hidden for some reason.

The bad news is the price of obtaining the replacement Swan Neck - after a bit of tooing-and-froing with Brink, the agreed to sell me a Swan Neck at the bargain price of £130+VAT!!! I can buy the aftermarket Brink 435700 full kit for £99 delivered on eBay. Brink have tried to claim that the aftermarket and OEM versions are different, but I have had a good look at the drawings for both and they appear to be identical. I didn't really want to go to the expense of buying a complete towbar just for the Swan Neck, but it looks like I have little choice. Unless anyone else has any ideas?

Cheers
