Daytime Running Lights now Side Marker Lamp - for the rear.

Not sure if this has been covered before ?

most people believe DRL's are just for the front of your vehicle. Well as I understand it some countries (USA being one) make it law to have rear DRL also.

So, here is the fix, as LR had done most of the work.

Remove your rear lamp cluster. at the bottom outside return edge you will see a flat layer of plastic, all around being curved. To the left of the lower cream bulb holder.

See photo .....

This is where the DRLs are fitted. I drilled a 12mm hole to suit my bulb holders W5W. I filed out two slots to allow the bayonet holder to secure and seal.

The wiring went into the boot mounted fuse box, finding a 'switched ignition live' circuit.

I fitted LED lamps. See photo.

Looks good Thumbs Up any fronts ?

They're actually called "Side Lamps" not DRL's and there is two fields to activate front and rear lights in the CCF. What you need to do is purchase the US harness for each light pod and do the drill exercise, as you have if you don't want to purchase a US spec light cluster.

But what you've done is another option. Thumbs Up MY15

I must have US spec lights on mine then. I bought a pair on eBay, the "interim" facelift type with white stop light lenses & they had looms with the "side" light fitted. 🤔

Yes, that will be them, plug into the normal main light harness. They can be activated within the ccf and will come on whilst engine is running. MY15

Or you can just get your dealer to configure them that way. It's a standard option in the car's software.
The latest Land Rovers have the rear lights configured this way as standard too (eg, my DS). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I just got hold of the LED 2013 cluster ....... and even they don't have the LEDs in.

so how are they 'configurable' ?

It configures the normal rear lights to switch on with the front LEDs. If your lights are LED they are LED. If not, then normal bulbs. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

It configures the REAR LAMPs ....... NOT ..... the Rear Side Marker Lamps ........ the two types of lamps are very different, whether it be Bulb or LED.

I have both sets of lamps on my work bench.

I would not have done the conversion .......... if it was as simple as you say.

Very Happy Very Happy

Ah sorry. I thought you just wanted front and rear running lights (DRLs front and rear, I think you said). Which as I wrote is a standard option. Never heard of "rear side marker lamps". Sorry. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

I think I first muddied the water by calling them rear DRLs ......only to find later that they were called Rear side marker lamps.

....but once you start a thread/topic/post you cant change it.

the Freelander 1 had them as well, so did my Disco 300 and Disco 2.

Here is an example of Side marker Lamps incorporated into a NAS bumper rubber quarter. As stated earlier Amber for the front ..... Red for the back.

I had this set up on my Disco 300

Later on the Disco 2 the Side Marker Lamps were housed in the Indicator housing for the front and the pillar rear lamp cluster for the back. Again I had these on my Disco 2.

......... I now have the rears on my Freelander 2...... cant fit the fronts as they are incorporated into the front headlamp cluster, you can get the headlamp with the amber marker lamp ....... but its for NAS LHD .....only.

The 5w lamp holders are in the same circuit as the tail lights. I left the bulbs out as I did not see the need for them in UK.
