Wales 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

Well I have both a FL2 and a Mk7 transit. I get on average 18k miles in the transit before needing pads and discs all round (quite often calipers as well). The transit also averages 9k miles between breakdowns. Quite honestly the worst van I've ever had the misfortune of owning. Driving position is horrid compared to my old Mk6 and frankly is like driving an eastern block tractor compared to a sprinter

Anyway, pads and discs on a freelander are not that expensive and much easier to do than transit ones. Not sure how you ended up spending a fortune.

I have since learnt the MY13 with EPB eats rear pads.

Is this a well known fact? If so why should it be any different to non EPB models? It would explain why I appear to have new pads on the back of my current car.

Maybe when people drive off relying on the auto off wears things a bit more? I'm still getting used to mine with EPB and need to get a procedure in place when selecting gear, hand brake off, moving away.
I was told that the rear pads are different on the EPB compared to early models. Just guessing but maybe they're smaller which would mean they would wear quicker? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

OK it's a "few" years since I drove a transit - service interval was 6k, pads lasted 10K - lease company wouldn't sanction replacement, so when they wore to metal it took out the discs as well. 100K in two years, 8 sets of pads and discs Very Happy
and quite a lot of other bits - wheel bearings, engine, wiring loom, fuel pumps, rear shackles - but a really comfy vehicle to drive.

Our FL2 average was 20K for rear pads, 40k for front pads, never had new front disks, one set of rear disks one set of rear shoes in 185k miles Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Car went to dealer for non-brake reason but at 28,500 miles they reported rear brake wear at 3mm and 4mm with minimum 2mm, so I bought a set of pads to change them. New thickness is about 10mm but they are tiny for such a heavy car.

I'll be renewing my F & R pads this week after getting that 'sacrificial metal/compound rubbing' sound on the way home yesterday.
And I'll be checking if the discs need doing too - although it's still on its original pads [so hopefully won't need doing].
But if they do, looking at the tolerances above, 2mm wear on the discs appears minimal.
So just questioning, is it crucial for them to be replaced with just 2mm wear?

If it is then I've absolutely no problem in doing so as I'd rather be safe than sorry.
And I'll be following Leesbay's excellent guide if I do. Thumbs Up

2mm disc wear limit is common across a lot of manufacturers.
