Sat Nav discs for 2017?

Hi,

We recently bought a 2008 HSE FL2, and the sat nav disc is the original one it came with. I had a look on the Land Rover official discs site, and it looks as if the latest disc they sell is 2014-15 and that they've actually stopped making them.

My local town has been majorly overhauled in the past 18 months - loads of roads now closed, plus a new one way system etc. The 2014-15 disc is going to be a bit useless for my needs, but I'm wary of using one of the dodgy sites that sell 2017 discs (not even sure how they can be 2017, if they're supposed to be copies of the official LR ones??).

We use the sat nav on our phones at the moment, but I'd really like to be able to update the unit properly if possible.

I saw on here that some people had used a Volvo disc instead? Would that be a good solution, or are my only choices to buy a separate sat nav with lifetime map updates?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

Yes, thanks - sadly the police seem to take a dim view of holding a map whilst driving down the motorway for some reason!

The map discs to suit the 2007-2012 FL2 are the same for various Volvo models, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and the Jaguar XF up to 2011 and Jaguar XK. It's known as the MMM2 system.

When you check all those brands, they all have nothing newer than 2015 listed, and in the case of Volvo, they only have maps from 2013...

If someone is offering a 2017 map for these vehicles, I doubt it's actually 2017 or even 2016 map level. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Thanks A that's really helpful and yes, those discs are definitely a scam. Annoying that those legit ones are only up to 2015; the new road system near me was only implemented in 2016. Think I'll have to stick with the iPhone for the time being!

Actually, I just realised I may have a 2016/2017 map for these cars.

No idea if it's really 2016-2017, it was posted up on a Facebook group, and I transferred it to my dropbox.

Jaguar Navigation System Western Europe 2016-2017 Disk B SatNav DVD Map Disc Update.

Disc B only coveres:
Andorra, France, Ireland, Monaco, United Kingdom

Jaguar XK (Alloy Body) MY07 onward
Jaguar XF MY08 to MY11

It's 7.7GB in size. You would need to burn it to a Dual-Layer DVD+R

Send me a PM, i'll give you the link. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Sorry for jumping on this thread but I've also been looking for newer Sat Nav disks and was a bit confused by the different makes available. Thanks for explaining the MMM2 system Cambo!

So, if no-one's probducing new update disks post 2015 are there ways to future proof the Sat Nav?
I've seen the newer Disco's can be updated by USB. Are there any USB updates around that can be put onto a disk and updated normally? has anyone replaced the Sat Nav unit under the seat with a newer one to allow USB updates?

Or is it time to replace it with an alternative with lifetime updates?

Thanks everyone!

Just purchased 2017/18 DVD update from SATVAV on line. No chance this will work then.

I just bought one of these and it works perfectly, even has the firmware update.
Legit third party company, 2017-18 maps.
Although they say there probably won't be another one after this sadly.

I bought updated maps for my recent trip to Italy via France and Switzerland. Said to be updated from March 2017 but I have some reservations about just how "updated" they were.

My doubts started in Dover when the GB disc had no idea about the road system in Dover which didn't seem like a brand new layout to me and had clearly been in place for a few years at least. We had similar experiences from time to time through France Switzerland and Italy though in general they were ok just didn't seem to be as "up to date" as I expected brand new discs to be.

My wife resorted to Google maps on a couple of occasions on her phone which were invariably spot on (amazed me but not her apparently).

Are they really very current or re-labelled older discs - I don't know but I guess if you only have a really old set they will be an improvement.

Doubt it is really 100% legit, they probably sold you copies for that price.

A similar company sold me a set 2016/2017 but they sent me copies of 2014/2015 (the last version Land Rover issued). If I put the discs in a PC the version file also shows it's 2015 and the dates of all files are 2014.

You can also check which version it really is by entering the hidden menu (see www.freel2.com/forum/topic1972.html). Then enter the PIN 295660 and then press the Version button. Here http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic22878.html someone posted a picture of the 2014/2015 disc version information.

But maybe the discs you have are not copies of the Land Rover discs but are copies of the newly released Volvo discs. Volvo did release new discs and I read older Volvo discs do work. I downloaded copies from the internet and burnt them on a DVD but the satnav could not read them, guess my DVD writer in my laptop is not good enough.

Still looking for a confirmation that the new Volvo discs also work, if they do I'll probably buy a legit set.
