Always worth phoning it in...

Me and my cousin went out (in his car so no dashcam footage) today and came across an accident. A silver Skoda Fabia VRS was on its roof having hit the grass bank on the left and flipped. No other cars involved and the occupants were out of the car.

The occupants, assisted by someone else who had stopped, were directing traffic past and no sign of police. Now the assumption here is why bother phoning it in? They will have already phoned or someone sat in the queue will have done.

I thought stuff that, if they already know then so be it. I phoned 999 and told the police what had happened and lo and behold they were not aware! No wonder the occupants had not phoned it in...

Cops attended and the driver was twice the alcohol limit and was promptly arrested! The local officers put it out on their twitter feed. Another bellend off the road and off to court Mr. Green Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Laughing Thumbs Up To be honest it just shows how a simple call can lead to big things when ordinarily you might just ignore it thinking someone else has already done it. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Question:
If you are sober and, by mistake, you roll over in the ditch and nobody is hurt and no damage whatsoever is done except for the car, is it mandatory, in your country, to call the police? Or just the insurer is enough?

Alex,

no need in the UK in those circumstances.

Also, you can run over and kill an elephant, a giraffe, an ardvark, or a cat and there is no requirement to inform the Police. Rolling with laughter Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018
