Very useful thanks. That was my plan! Interesting that is a torx for the centre level plug. I was using a Haynes manual which shows a hex plug. I know it sounds stupid but because the car was only elevated by enough for me to get underneath, I didn't see whether the plug was a hex or torx! I need another look with more elevation!

DJ, it is definitely a torx plug. Get the right bit & you should be ok. Seems to me you are not using ramps. You need the height to get your drip tray and catch bottle/funnel under. Read my write up through, you should be able to do it.

I had driven the car on to some 6x3 planks to give me enough height just to get underneath, it was enough that I could just lift the rear on the jack to level it up. This was enough to do the front transfer box and engine oil drain. But I'll use my ramps to give a bit more space and try with the correct torx bit. Excellent write up and big improvement on the Haynes manual!

Just to update, I cut a little notch on the edge of the plug with a chisel, then tapped it round with a punch just to get it loose. The torx bit then had enough purchase to take it off. I can get on with the rest now. Lesson- Make sure you have proper, safe access and take your time using the correct tools!
