High level break light, how to seal?

I have a water leak here dripping into the boot. I can see a video showing how to remove it but what is the best way to seal it?
TIA

Adhesive foam weather strip, this is what is fitted originally, I guess over time it loses its elasticity and loses its seal. Very common issue. I siliconed mine in months ago following fitting an LED light ... it has recently leaked too Mad

Look for my thread somewhere on here.

Siliconed the seal back in on mine but left a very small hole in outside run edge to allow water to get away. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thank you. Do you know if you can purchase a replacement updated seal as indicated in the thread? 2012 GS

I used some rubberised E profile draught seal strip (from Lidl) - cut two lengths and ran the top (longer) length across and down at the edges to allow water to run off - fitted the shorter length across the bottom leaving the drip edge clear,
Forgive my crude drawing but I hope you get the idea.

where the clips that secure it to the car - on the tailgate I added 2 layers of gaffa tape to increase the tightness of the fit ( many years ago) and it worked well, was free and quick. Never had to revisit it.

Had the same dreaded leak on my Freelander - took it in for warranty repair and they fitted a brand new brake light so well pleased. Thumbs Up MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I had that too. It's such a well known fault, there is no argument involved in getting it fixed under warranty. At the first service, the dealership said they'd replace the gasket for a later/thicker version, but in fact they replaced the whole light unit. One year on, no sign of a leak and the unit hasn't worked loose as it had before.

Mine was replaced under warranty 2 years ago and has been OK up to now. I found a drip on the luggage cover last week so splurged some silicone grease between the light and the tailgate metal. OK again so far !

High level light seal

Also worth checking for cracks around the washer jet while you have the light out of the tailgate and prior to seal cures as above......water might in fact be the 'washer fluid into rear light...into boot' issue.
New rubber 'o'-ring on washer nozzle and silicone grease cured mine.
