Is it legal to drive around without a rear bumper cover?

Taken the rear bumper cover off to fix the parking sensors. I bought one sensor but now think it'd be best to replace them all.

Will Mrs IDL get in to bother if I send her off to work without the rear bumper cover whilst I wait for parts to arrive?

The only issue I can think of is that the rear reflectors are on the bumper cover.

It probably is illegal due to the possible injury that could be caused to pedestrians by sharp metal objects that would normally be covered. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

I believe reflectors are a legal requirement. Even in daytime. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

A large majority of motorcyclists throw the rear reflectors away and fit neater smaller number plate mounts .bike MOT stations keep boxes of stick on 10p sized reflectors, stick it on , pass your test, chuck it away .

I don't know anybody ever stopped for not having one. I'd bet the average cop could be bothered even if he knew the law on the subject.

When you think logically, if you don't have rear lights the following vehicle will pick up the yellow reflective numberplate way before the poxy reflectors. Given that the Freelander has a rear plate the size of a tea tray I'd take the risk . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks all for your comments.

I've just re-fitted the bumper cover. At least next time I take it off I'll be a lot quicker now that I've had some practice!
