Ingenium 180 engine 2 stroke

I changed to an Evoque last year after 4 Freelander 2's. Evoque forum OK but FL2 much more informative technically.
Are there any changes of thought on using 2 stroke (which I used regularly with FL2's) with new Ingenium 180 Auto. All FL2's (3) Gone

I think I read somewhere you can't use 2SO in a car with a dpf or addblue? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

My Scooby has dire warnings in the handbook about using fuel additives. This is because as part of the regeneration process of the DPF, diesel fuel is fired into the catalyst on the exhaust strokes when required, and that process is geared to burning bog standard pump diesel. ( this is why extending oil service schedules should be avoided as diesel washes past the rings and " dilute" the engine oil. So on that type of catalyst in effect you would be adding two stoke as well , possibly affecting the regen.

With Adblue technology you are sticking an ammonia compound ( 31.5% urea solution if I remember correctly ) into the catalytic convertor post combustion, so you would think that the two stroke should have been burnt off, but with the price of repairing that technology I'd just stick to pump diesel as well.

Good job our 09 Freelander just chucks straight forward muck out of the exhaust. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The OP's post was specifically referring to the 180 ingenium engine that uses addblue though. Do you know of any such vehicles using 2SO? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

My mistake, i was not aware that the new motors use addblue tech, my comment was only for the FL2 motors.

Adblue system isn't a fuel additive but part of a system to scrub NO2 from exhaust fumes isn't it? Not sure why that would have any impact on a fuel additive such as 2SO?

I remember that the type of 2SO for cars with DPF was different than for pre face lift 2010 models with no DPF and that is presumably more important and relevant - isn't it?

I talk to those who agree with adding 2SO of course, those who don't agree won't change their minds because of Ingenium engines being introduced and will always think it's a dumb idea.

Why not just buy decent fuel in the first place? Adding 2SO is a bit like buying cheap engine oil and then buying a can of oil additive to make up for the oil deficiency. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

2SO adds extra lubrication back into then fuel system, regardless of the diesel you buy Wink

It is indeed part of a system, I've just looked up some old notes I had when I was looking at a feasibility study to build a production plant for the same product about 10 years ago Very Happy It is high grade urea blended with demineralised water. Injected into the exhaust the resultant ammonia reacts with the catalyst in the system and converts NOX in the exhaust to nitrogen. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Silly question but if it's so good to add two stroke oil to diesel at a 200:1 ratio, why aren't their ANY fuel suppliers who add it in the first place and charge an extra penny or so per litre to save everyone trying to mix the exact ratio on the station forecourt? Same question regarding motor manufacturers - if it increases power, makes engines quieter, makes the fuel system components last longer, you'd think the damn idiots would think to mention it somewhere in the vehicle operating instructions, wouldn't you? Just think, millions of pounds in development to refine their engines to run better, last longer and be more fuel efficient and all they had to do was to advise owners to chuck a drop of 2SO in the tank. Same with the fuel companies. You'd think at least one of them would have read the forums and seen where they're going wrong.....

Let's be honest, we all know there's only one way to save fuel and it's this: http://www.fuelex.co.uk. Mind you, being as we have 2.2 engines, we'll need two of them because each one will ONLY work on engines up to 2 litres. Whistle

Edit: Censored . That only works on petrol engines. Now, where's that 2SO? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

There have always been theories and snake oil Steve. I once spent 3 hours on a flight next to a chap who worked for a producer of the various additive packs that are added to fuel at the refinery. Those packs are how the different brands and own brands can share the same base fuel. He offered exactly the same opinion as you . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Years ago when I rode a 2 stroke motorcycle, at most garages there was a portable pump of 2 stoke oil by the fuel pumps so you could measure out the 2 stroke to your required mix by turning the lever to 25:1, 50:1 and 33:1 but I am afraid they seemed to have stopped doing them as you have to buy it by the bottle now. Perhaps it might be a good idea to revert to old fashioned method to add 2 stroke to your vehicle if required
