More effective windscreen wipers?

The current wipers I have aren't very deep and finding when I go through standing water it gets thrown onto the windscreen and the wipers take 2-3 wipes to clear and you end up driving blind for a few seconds. I'm thinking a deeper blade would be better to clear the water with one wipe.

Any suggestions?

Assuming your blades already operate OK in heavy rain why not turn your wipers on before playing out in (hitting deep) puddles. No blades can compensate for differing reaction times as its always going to be a catch up once you hit the wiper switch. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

If the water is that deep on the screen a deeper blade would most likely aquaplane rather than clear the screen?

Possibly, but I get the feeling when a lot of water is thrown on the screen the blade goes under the water so was thinking a deeper blade might clear it in one wipe

May I suggest that you check to see if you have front "spats" fitted as these are designed to stop exactly what you are experiencing, water being thrown up onto the screen when the front tyres meet a large body of water.
There is also two sizes available, mine are the smaller version.

The front splash spats were only fitted to 2011MY onwards, 2006-2010 models didn't have them IIRC.

Wasn't aware there were different size ones though.

Land rover Experience had these removed I assume because they tore off.

Was not aware it was for anti water splashing and had assumed it was to give down-force mistakenly. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I fitted genuine ones to my 2008 model. Got them from Dan at Duckworths. Weren't very expensive either - about £15-£20 for the pair I think. Took minutes to fit too. Cheapest OE upgrade I ever did to it!

Thanks Westville and Steve.

Steve, can you remember how they attached to the bumper? Did you need to drill mounting holes? Also it seems there are 2 types as per the post by Westville. Do you know which one I'd need?

Two or three screws/plastic pins that fit onto existing holes/screws as I seem to remember. Really, really easy to fit. They come with instructions anyway. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
