OK, this is my last blub about this problem...

Just driven out of our Hamlet with 15cm (edited) of snow in the F2, can't beleive I made it as I thought the 4x4 wasn't working.

Here's the update:

Had an abs light on along with triangle warning light and hub warning light (2007HSE manual). Error code on icarsoft, and on independent Landy suggests rear wheel sensor area.

Changed the wheel sensor-no joy
Swapped the rear wheel sensors to check original working -yep, no problem, all OK on other side.
Bought new wheel sensor - still same problem.
Changed the rear wheel bearing - still same problem.
Checked the plug behind the plastic wheel arch - no change.
Removed the aformentiined plug and soldered in various combinations, and with a new sensor - no change.

Now soldered back the original plug and will buy another 'genuine' Land Rover sensor to have a last attempt at a solution, otherwise it's off to an electrical specialist.

A - I'm obviously hacked off and baffled by this conundrum and wish I hadn't bought this pile of poo

B - Is my 4x4 still functioning despite the 'no special functions available' because if the abs error?

15mm of snow? That's just over 1/2" - any car should be able to cope with that! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Yes, indeed. I meant 15 cms, with plenty more on the way. We have a steep track to get up which is why we need a 4x4 here. As the snow gets deeper I have to put chains on our Discovery 2 to be able to get up. By rights the freelander shouldn't have made it unless the 4x4 was working, which has baffled me

We usually have to wait for the snow plough when the winter sets in, so far no problems, but we have had over 2m with drifts in the past. No way even the Disco will plough through that  Only dead fish go with the flow

Whenever I go to the Alps or Pyrenees the vehicle of choice by the locals seems to be a Fiat Panda 4x4. Even my wife is interested in getting one.  3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Ha, ha, ha... Yes, there are afew of those here. We need something with more 'guts' as we tow a horsebox occasionally, and have to get wood from the forest every year.

No getting away from it, at 1130m altitude, and with a harsh winter, the Freelander was going to be our ideal car. Sadly I bought a Turkey and will suffer the consequences...

Hopefully it's not a turkey. It has a issue at the moment... when that is fixed hopefully you will many happy miles. Sorry I have no answers, just trying to say don't throw the baby out with the bath water... most vehicles have an occasional issue. They get fixed then all is well.

Rear diff bearing went after 2 weeks.
Rear shocks failed French MOT.
Just discovered Turbo is leaking.
Needs new glow plugs as doesn't start well with the cold.
Needs new thermostat as is reading 'cool'.
Current electrical gremilin means car is useless here in winter/ not fit for purpose.

I suppose the question must be, how much did it cost, what is the Km as you have only had it about 6 months, and I assume no warranty, bearing an mind it is a 10 year old car, in the UK there are many 10 year old cars in scrap yards with apparently perfect bodies, some being the oft quoted reliable makes. OK 4x4's tend to last longer ( or should) as their components should be of a higher spec mechanically but use and prior maintenance has a bearing on failure, electronics on a 10 year old vehicle are in the later stages of their life, ( average life of electronic or electric components is 6 years) therefore owning a car of that age will incur expenditure sooner rather than later, I would suggest that you have reached that stage, the FL2 uses a considerable amount of electronics to perform. It does seem that you have some form sensor failure but the system is still working. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Quite simply I got unlucky and bought a mettalic pile of poo that decided to 'retire' early... Only dead fish go with the flow

Check to see if the CANBUS I/O for that wheel is powered up and the plugs and sockets to the rear wheel module in the boot are clean, the problem with the FL2 is that to fault find you really need and oscilloscope and compare the wave forms from each wheel is the same as I doubt that there are any LR pin position wave forms for any given condition. I know that labour costs in main dealers are of the level where the techs should be using this form of fault finding but they just ain't, more profit in changing out many sensors and modules until the problem is fixed which you can do at a lower cost. The advantage of that fault finding system is the components get newer and eventually the whole system is under 4 years old  my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

That is all beyond my DIY mechanical ability...

Latest suggestion from another source is that it may be the Haldex module. Apparently they are prone to 'break'down' and can give of the same error message(s). The search continues.

The TDi 300 was the last of the mechanical LR's and built like the proverbial, though models after 1996 did have a fly by wire accelerator. Had one for 9 years and no real problem except for a new chassis under warranty due to a lack of underseal type coating and rust set in behind all the body mounting outriggers. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I've just sold two. Had one of them since we came to France in 2006. Best vehicle I've eve had - shame about the rust. Only dead fish go with the flow

Maybe it was the wrong kind of snow.  Understeer when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer when you hit the wall with the back of the car.
Horsepower how fast you hit the wall.
Torque how far you take the wall with you.

Maybe! I'll post a pic of some and see if you can advise....
