Choices, Choices

OK, any idea's, thoughts welcome.
After a good conversation with my boss today, he has OK'd either a Disco Sport or an Evoque!
Question is what to go for.
have a very good monthly budget so can get a good standard of either model.

Please help me out with this puzzle.

pro's & cons of either car.

Thanks Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Not a fan of either so I would be looking elsewhere. Rolling Eyes

DS load area is not flat so no good for our lifestyle. Crying or Very sad Issues with build Quality ?

Ewok is a bit of a Southern Hairdressers car for a rough and ready Northerner like moi. Whistle FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Two different vehicles. One is a nice fashionable 4x4 car with the same wheel base as a Ford Focus, one is a medium sized SUV. So what do you need the vehicle for ? Family , Dogs, Shooting, Fishing Tools for work, etc , the DS would be a better choice, (but having said that I rejected it as purchase because as per the comment above the load space was no improvement on the already poor Freelander.)

Probably more pertinent is what engine options are available and what the BIK Tax is payable over the lifetime you will keep the vehicle you have specced . Nothing worse than being stuck with a big , rising tax bill for a few years. Also do you get personsal fuel as a BIK ? If you do your personal mileage costs won't come into it, if you don't you might want to find out what real world economy you will get from both cars when you are paying for fuel it will be at least 10mpg down from the manufacturers claim . I

As a final comment, what does your typical work driving involve ? If it's short trips fine, if it's very long motorway distances regularly there are a lot of better options from BMW and Audi that will have lower BIK charges and much much better suited for that purpose A4/ A6 Avant ( Quattro if you really need it ) for example.

Addendum I've just had a look on http://comcar.co.uk the diesel engined cars you're looking at are 25 to 27% of list for calculating BIK Big Cry 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for the replies.
Most of my driving is motorway and cover approx. 50,000 miles per year.
re BIK 25 to 27% is big but not as bad as the freelander, I also get fuel and pay the tax on that too.
At the moment I have a total BIK (Car & Fuel) of £22,500 per year on which I physically pay just shy of £9,500.

I am also considering the new VW Tiguan R Line, but have yet to get physical with one.

I know the load space in the freelander is not huge like the DS and the Ewok is smaller, but only thing I carry are three small dogs to their daily walk in the woods and I am not so precious to not have them on a covered back seat if needs be.
so the size is not really a big issue.
Boils down to BIK and the Co2 levels.
Thanks Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Well if you are looking at VAG, and don't mind the 25% , and are in DS sport price range could I suggest the 2.0 petrol 250 hp Audi A4 Allroad with Quattro on demand Bow down or for a few bob more the 3.0 diesel which would put a real smile on your face but has full time Quattro. Going to any VW after sitting in an Evoque , you will notice the difference ! With an Audi you get class. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thanks,
Will look into the S5,
Does not have to be LR or even an obvious SUV type vehicle.- to be honest not completely sold on the DS but do like to look and feel of the ewok.
Quite like the look of the BMW 335d X Drive, but need to work out costs, BIK etc.
By the way the Freelander is costing me 35%!!!! so 25% is a great saving already- looked up an autobiography Ewok, still comes out at only 25%, so can't lose really.
please keep your answers coming Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Unfortunately my boss is quite image conscious and to be honest the F pace would send out the wrong message to our customers, the Ewok or DS are on the limit of perceptions when it comes to customers image of our company, I understand that to be honest.
I used to drive C class mercs before, as an E class was seen to be too "In yer face"
so felt lucky to (in my mind) move up to LR.
Just got to tread carefully with my choice. Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Apart from the quad exhaust and noise, the S5 is as understated as they come.
The virtual cockpit option is amazing Thumbs Up and unlike LR tech, it works

OK, Looked at the Audi range and the s5, not for me.
My son had an Audi TT, quick, well built but boring.
just not for me.
If we were all the same would all be in Trabants I guess.

Am quite taken with the evoque,-will do what I want it to do, so will see how things go- maybe I will be priced out when it comes to the crunch, spec etc.

Have loved (and still loving my freelander) being a LR driver, Very Happy

gonna follow my heart unless told otherwise.

Buying a car ain't simple is all I can say. Crying or Very sad
Thanks for all info and advice Hit it he said, Hit it!--So I hit it, then he hit me---Doh!

Would the flashy appeal of the Evoque grate after a while? Would the DS be easier to live with long term?

I have had both as loan cars and my choice would be the DS.

It is more like the FL2 than the Evoke which was like looking through

a letter box and was banging my head when getting in.

Try them both.

I love Audis , as a company car they make a lot of sense, great engines, lovely drive, condition based servicing , big discounts on cars and options to fleet , peerless cabins, and refreshingly free from pikey bits Thumbs Up The Mrs doesn't know it yet but when her Freelander is finally sent on it's way 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
