Dead key fob

How do you start the Freelander 2 (2014) if the key fob goes dead on you?
The reason I ask we were out in the wife’s Lexus ct200 yesterday, everything was as normal until we took the dog for a walk and swim in the local river. Got back to the car and I couldn’t get in , used the emergency key and all hell broke loose.. alarm going , lights flas, the works . Obviously I couldn’t start the car (no key ignition).
Luckily enough we were only 2mikes from home so I walked it and got the wife’s car key . Her key started the car so all was good.
My key for the wife’s car had a new battery in it a few months ago , so I’ve no idea why it stopped working (no warning on the dash saythe battery was low). I went back out to the Lexus with my key and everything works , car opens/starts and has been ok since.
I looked on YouTube on how to start the Lexus if the fob battery is dead .. there must be a capacitor in the Lexus key fob because you can hold the key fob next to the start button and the car will stat .. I tried it and it works.
Back to my original point , how do you start the Freelander if the battery dies? Btw I tried the Lexus way on the Freelander and it didn’t work. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Really helpful thanks Thumbs Up . If I was going to do something like that I would buy a spare battery for the fob and keep it in the glove box. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

Hold the key fob against the ridged area underneath the steering column and even with a flat battery the car should start and cancel the alarm.

or carry a spare 2032 battery and change out the dead one.
