Recommendations please! Tyres for 57 FL2

Hi all

My old 57 FL2 needs some new tyres, I've not gone outside of the Goodyear Wrangler/EfficientGrip as of yet, but I'm keen to see what options there are, especially those that are generally stocked by the usual tyre fitting places - I'd rather avoid having to order and then fit separately. I'm in Bath and happy to act on recommendations for any specialists in general area.

I've had reasonable wear from the Goodyears, however I've no real handling, grip or wear point of comparison to make, so interested to hear people's experiences of how other tyres stack up in terms of wear and handling that are in the same price bracket (circa £100-110 fitted per tyre)

My average MPG is terrible, indicated usually around 33MPG (current about 15-16p per mile at pump) but suspect that's more down to hilly, twisty roads in Bath area and a dated old Ford-era engine (it's the 2.2 TD that rattles like a tractor), but interested in how much difference tyres would make to this figure.

The car is a 57 plate GS 2.2 with bog-standard alloys, tyre fitting 235 65 R17.

All advice gratefully received

Cheers
Matt

Had a read of a number of threads, seems like there's no unequivocal winner! The Nokian Weatherproof looked a decent bet, but couldn't find it available at any local fitters. Pirelli Scorpions get some decent feedback, so opted for those.

Just booked in to get some Pirelli Scorpion Verde 108V XL All-Season fitted, just under £100 each all-up. Cheapar than my previous Goodyear option, interested to see how they stack up - they'll be getting a decent run over Christmas period, including up to Scotland, so maybe some snow and ice to deal with!

The choice is mind blowing. I guess its down to what your primary use will be. Me, I'm minimal off road, mainly urban tarmac, so off road capability will be handled by the F2 and not the tyres. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018
