Basic Radio but I want hands free

I have a FL2 2010 which has the basic radio fitted, I was wondering if upgrading to a higher spec unit was just as simple as taking the old one out and fitting a new high spec unit ( as in picture below)
I have looked in the forums but it seems a bit confusing.
I would like to use the Bluetooth hands free in car, I have tried some portable units but honestly they are pretty poor.

This isn't actually the radio, it's the control panel. The radio is behind this and I understand that changing it is a big job involving the wiring loom and also requires it to be programmed into the ECU.

The blue tooth unit on your vehicle incidentally, is at the back of the car just above the fuel filler and is connected by a fibre optic cable. Mine works OK through the same radio unit. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I thought basic radios have had handsfree phone prep since launch, especially a 2010 model Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Yes I actually meant that the change would be control panel and radio unit, I was wondering if the loom was made to accept both the basic and the Bluetooth radio, so that I wanted to take out the basic unit and swap for a BT unit with its own front panel.
My current system has no control for a Bluetooth phone as far as I am aware, the radio panel has no phone symbol on the button, it is just blank

What about Ariel etc fitted for DAB etc as later sets have that so you may need to check that out as well.

Do a good search as others talk of entertainment upgrades. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

I don't think you have the bluetooth module in the car then. This seems to imply that it came in with the GS

So seems I am out of luck, I was looking at other solutions and saw that I can get a used radio for about £150 to £200 which is only the cost of a third party system,
Looks like finding a different solution then, something like the Parrot system, which should use the radio speakers, I tried the Parot minikit Neo and it was terrible sound was distorted and too quiet.

Freelander 2 Telephone kit

Hi Raywin,
When I had my 2007 GS, I wanted handsfree and bought the Landrover kit which consists of LR003995 and the telephone module XVJ 500121. I never got round to fitting it, and my GS went at the beginning of the year - soon to be replaced with a 2013 HSE! The GS had the basic radio so it should be compatable with your standard radio. The only part I haven't got is the steering wheel control, but these come up on a well known auction site.
If you are interested, please pm and we can discuss further.
Regards
Peter
